Cam Chain Tensioner Checks on a 900 - dandywarhol - 23-10-2017 The automatic spiral one works fine with the modified (latest post 2006) longer tensioner body Cam Chain Tensioner Checks on a 900 - Ollyls27 - 22-12-2017 Hi everyone i have a 2003 tdm900 witg 48k on clock, haven't even been out on it yet only ridden it home.ivr started it up today and got a little rattle on the over run so im think it will be the cam chain tensioner, so my question is do i replace for a new one fowlers want £140 or could i replace with a manual one off ebay? To set the new tensioner do you pull the tag out directly or rotate and pull? Cam Chain Tensioner Checks on a 900 - EddTheDuck - 03-01-2023 So I am about to get this done on my 9 at the local Kawasaki dealership for mega bucks! Is it necessary for them to also check the timing hasn't jumped when thye do it or can I get away with just the unit replacement? Cheers for any advice received. Cam Chain Tensioner Checks on a 900 - Catteeclan - 04-01-2023 When I did mine I got No 1 cylinder at TDC then changed them. The idea is the cam has less chance of moving as inlet and exhaust lobes are getting a bit of contact. Once replaced always turn the engine over without plugs by hand before trying to start. Cam Chain Tensioner Checks on a 900 - Trevini - 04-01-2023 I vaguely remember doing the same when I did mine, but it was a long time ago back around 2006/7. Wasnât the tensioner a recall? Iâm pretty sure I didnât pay for mine at the time.   Edit- just checked and it wasnât. Only recall was for the tps. Cam Chain Tensioner Checks on a 900 - EddTheDuck - 04-01-2023 Thanks guys. I'm not totally useless with the spanners and have done various mundane bits myself before like pads, discs, oil changes, brake line replacement and chain and sprockets. However with an engine I am almost a virgin when it comes to stuff inside! I've only ever changed out the oil pump and removed a spinner on my lad's 125 Honda Grom! I'd rather shell out on the CCT job than mess it up! |
