>>> INTRODUCE YOURSELF HERE <<< - puk - 28-10-2011

Hi all,
My name is Joel, and i am a Lutheran Minister on the Darling Downs in Queensland.
I just picked up my first TDM yesterday, a 1999 mk2 with about 70,000klm on it that i got for $3500 AUD on Ebay.
I am 6 foot 5, so i found the seating and leg position bearable, but the bar riser mod is not far off happening, as well as either an airhawk or higher re-padded seat. (I have long legs, and bad knees, not a good combo.)

I did the maths and convinced my wife that if i use the bike to commute on the 115klm return trip to one of my churches, it would pay itself off in 14 months, as opposed to the 14.5 klm per litre that i get from my Jeep Cherokee.

I have already bought a stebel magnum horn ready to go in, an Osram +90 h3 upgrade, and am working on luggage etc.

Now i know the bike was dropped, that was part of the cheaper price. Because of this the screen is scratched up pretty bad. Has anyone ever sanded and painted their screen black or chrome? Or what about putting carbon fibre film on it over the scratches? I am thinking of doing that rather than replacing it.

I have learnt a hell of a lot on here already, and plan to pick up a lot more info yet.

Puk

Well I've finally done it; after several years of searching for the right one, I've bought myself a TDM 850 (a black, 1993 3VD); I've been following the Carpe TDM forum pages even before I got the TDM but now I feel I'm officially one of a band of brothers (and sisters).

I'm not on the road just yet, I'm going to give her a really good going over, tidy a few things-up, fully serviced and a really good clean, but otherwise she's all there; there's no grab rail but a moderately useful rack in its place. Starts-up now, she wouldn't at first, but I've now fitted a replacement coil and fires-up first touch of the button.

I live in Salisbury, Wiltshire (South of England) along with my wife, daughters and 2x retired Greyhounds. I've riding since 17, and even before that on our group field bikes (Honda C50 and BSA Bantam). I've got several other bikes still; Yamaha FJ1100, Honda CB500 and 2x BSA Bantams (D1 + D7).

We follow bike motorsport; MotoGP, WSB and go to several BSB races throughout the year, wish to go the the Isle of Man sometime, not necessiliarly for the races, just to see the place; I've never been there before.

This is a pucture of my bike; it's got a small dent in the tank but it's still functional (holds petrol and doesn't leak); but I may get it filled and resprayed at a later date, or may find someone with a spare going cheap, especially if it's the right colour.

Hi Colincp, thank you for your message. My very first encounter with motorbikes was a NSU Quickly then onto a Honda C70 and BSA Bantam D10 all of which were used off road. My first road bike was a (1971) Honda CB175, and passed my test on a Honda CB250 (G5) in 1977. I've had loads of bikes since, CB400-4 (which I bought new in 1978 for £805.00), 550-4, 650-4, Tiger Cub, CZ 175, XL250, Bonneville T140V (1978), Ducati 900SS (air-cooled desmo) and Ducati 860 GT and 860 GTS, CBX550, and the two BSA Bantams (which I'm restoring). The CB500, and Yamaha FJ1100 both of which I still ride, depending on whatever event I'm participating in i.e. Run to Ace Cafe, BSB event, Club runs (http://www.salisburymotorcycleandlightcarclub.co.uk/).

I really can't wait to get the TDM up-and-running, I really love the riding position, the look of the bike and the lovely sound of the exhausts.

Hello and good day
I'm new to the CARPE Forum and would like to thank the Admin, who has helped me in the registration in the Forum.
The forum software has sent me no registration mail.

I am the limbo of the TDM Forum from Germany.
I drive a red TDM RN18 of 2008 and had a black RN11 of 2005 before, both with ABS.

Some know me certainly heard of the TDM-Megatreffen 2011 in Maserberg in Thüringen/D.

My plan is to visit you on the RTT.

>>> INTRODUCE YOURSELF HERE <<< - Nutmeg - 03-12-2011

Hello everyone.

I'm Peter from Workington in Cumbria. Just bought my first TDM 850 last week, a 1999 silver and black one, all standard and very low mileage. Not my first bike by a long way but as it's so tidy and a bike I've yearned for for years, I'm planning on keeping it for a long time.

Been out on it today and I LOVE IT!!!

I need some advice on handguards if anyone can help me out - see my post on 'Knowledgebase' for details.

Anyone planning a day out in the lakes please give me a shout and I'll try and show you some of my favourite roads in the area.
