850 Destruction - dablik - 11-09-2020 Quote:I've only dipped in to the early bits of this thread due to being a relative newbie and that is no small rebuild you've done, and all outside. Thanks Dave, i did get to put the engine back together in the office upstairs but that's it, often felt like dousing the bike in petrol and setting it alight the weathers not kind to her outside so i'll forever be fettling, have plans to redo the seat next year along with a bit of repainting me thinks and odds and sods, love the mk2 rear sprocket as acceleration is lubberly but the wallet dont like it, i'm average 43 miles per gallon just now :unsure2:850 Destruction - bjorge - 11-09-2020 [quote name="dablik" i'm average 43 miles per gallon just now :unsure2:[/quote] ...and I thought I have a problem doing 53MPG....ð± 850 Destruction - Snowbird - 11-09-2020 I doubt I get near that mpg as mine seems to guzzle fuel, that said I don't do big distances but give a lot of grief on local fun runs. Treat em mean and all that. 850 Destruction - Studley Ramrod - 19-09-2020 Float bowls on ebaygum Dabs.  https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/113223792224  https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mikuni-Float-Bowl-Cover-For-BDST-38-For-Yamaha-TDM-850/203070062989 850 Destruction - dablik - 19-09-2020 Cheers Ian, seen those but no overflow drain off..thinks it's normally the right side (cyl 2) bowl. 850 Destruction - MarshallStone - 21-09-2020 Quote:Snot a race dabbers. Slow n steady and get it roight.I agree but how do you know that it is the right to get it right! 850 Destruction - dablik - 21-09-2020 Quote:I agree but how do you know that it is the right to get it right! Because if you look at carbs set up oem it's the right bowl, some people swap them over for easier access to the drain off screws, me included. 850 Destruction - dablik - 12-03-2022 In hindsight i'm glad i go tthe title of the thread right at least ![]()  Me thinks lots of metal floating about, lot of oil blown onto the front of the engine below the exhausts and above the sump an all. ![]()  So that's the end of that now, need to make space for a new bike... 850 Destruction - alanfavell - 12-03-2022 Gaaaarrr - bummer  Better times with your new ride Cliff :good: 850 Destruction - wicklamulla - 12-03-2022 Oh no Cliff, was it oil starvation then or a failed gasket? 850 Destruction - dablik - 12-03-2022 Not sure to be honest Ken, i'm beginning to suspect a gasket blow judging by the amount of oil on the front, plenty drained off though when i emptied the oil so dont think oil starvation unless the oil pump went west, oil filter was a bit squashed as well, will know more later in the summer when i pull the engine apart.. 850 Destruction - dapleb - 12-03-2022 Êãá´¥Êã â»ââ» Very sorry to ear that dabbers. 850 Destruction - dablik - 12-03-2022 Cheers daps, thanks for all the help with parts, i'll have that clutch basket back to you matey in the summer sometime, dunno about the rotor though :unsure2:  Yea turned out crap after all that graft but hey ho it's done, i'll move on.. 850 Destruction - Snowbird - 12-03-2022 Oh crap that's not good! Is there anything on that bike that's not new or rebuilt? So whats the next plan of action? 850 Destruction - dablik - 12-03-2022 Quote:Oh crap that's not good! Is there anything on that bike that's not new or rebuilt? Every bearing is new, wheels, head bearings, swing arm, fork stantions and all bushes, new cush rubbers, er new timing chain, new coil, mosfet reg/rec etc, wiring loom was stripped and gone over, re-wrapped, every engine seal replaced...lots of stuff Dave, no matter i still have to say i really enjoyed pulling it to bits and rebuilding bar the frustration but as a layman and rebuilding from the Haynes i'm glad i did it, as i've said before if i was'nt stuck outside i would still fix it, shame i've nowhere to keep it a few years until retirement, however i have to make space so i'm breaking her and will sell off the parts.........being replaced with a Himalayan, slow and simple... 850 Destruction - chrisbee - 12-03-2022 Absolutely gutted for you.. 850 Destruction - chrisr - 13-03-2022 Himalayan wonât do it for you Cliff, get yourself another 900, you know it makes sense, we donât want to lose you! 850 Destruction - Snowbird - 13-03-2022 Gutted for you!
