What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - TYREDNGRUMPEE - 27-06-2015

Cleaned off mating surfaces and fitted RolfieB's brand new, cast-off, OEM, stator cover gasket.

Now the belly pan can rest easy, no longer being called upon as a secondary oil catch tank.

Problem is, where am I to get my genuine Yamaha kit from now? Cheers bud.

put 1645km on the odometer last weekend.

This is the first time i've seen the wear warnings on the outer edge of the tires same time as on the middle.

So, time for a new front tyre, clutch, oil change.

Felt sorry for it for two reasons:

1: After around 2000 miles on Scotland trip (I'm a southern fairy so it is quite far away)  Confusedorry:

2: Moved it out of the way in the garage to allow the prime spot to be taken up by my CBR400 NC29, to get it going again and ready for MOT and summer thrashing :clapping:

Just got back from an excellent but very hot ride from Harrogate to Ripon, Masham, Leyburn, Hawes, Grassington, Pateley Bridge and home.  Hardly any traffic, although Hawes a bit busy because its Market Day.  I don't think Wensley Dale/Wharfedale and Nidderdale have ever looked better - Figured that my aching throttle wrist is probably down to the sharpish rearward bend on the standard niner handlebars so will look up the various threads on "Renthals" for advice on a replacement - Cheers all

755s, much better, especially with risers.

As awesome as the TDM is, I don't understand what Yamaha was thinking when they decided on putting those strange bars on the bike.  Where's the logic in putting uncomfortable cruiser bars on a sport tourer? :locco:

A Throttle Rest for a couple of quid will solve your problem. You can rest your hand on the throttle at an angle to suit and control the throttle by pushing rather than twisting. Love 'em

Quote:(yesterday really)

Fitted the MRA winglet from my old Tiger 150 screen to the stock screen

black tacked it first to check it and was pleased with pressure relief on neck so drilled it and made permanent

YMMV though :-)
Having said that, I realise the necko speedo is no longer efective as im doing 20 mph more than ususal pretty much everywhere outside a 40 limit.  oops.....

Thanks for this Retro, I see they're only a quid so I'll give it a try.

installed Barkbuster handguards. Seems good so far.

I did not ride the last days because the outside temperature is too high - more than 40° & the the sunshine is unbearable.

I'm planning to relocate in a rainny country...  :hide:

That just looks so right! I love it. I do long distances so wouldnt suit me to well but shes a looker.

On a different note, I found my rear shock snapped at the bottom bush. Having just come back from a week in France its a bit worrying as to when it went.

Could have been nasty that...........

Just checked out everything thoroughly on mine, only issue seems to be the front brake callipers....

Started preparation for my big annual touring (leaving on Saturday for 4 weeks). Will be my be my 5th year doing a 'Europe trip' on this TDM

Greased steering bearings, changed fork oil, ordered braided hoses, removed swingarm to grease bearings and ended up deciding to drop it off to be powder coated. Dropped wheels and new tyres off to be fitted. Beer o'clock now.

Swingarm should be ready to collect Monday so will resume assembly then. Until then I am keeping busy with cleaning and more cleaning (the bike that is!)

Question - how often do you guys changed plugs and air filter? I usually do them once a year on my 'big service' but last year after 6k they both look fine when I pulled them out. Currently done about 7k on them and tempted to leave them as is. I anticipate doing another 6k on this years tour. So would be 13k on that set of plugs/air filter

Hi MattTDM!

The service manual states:

1) plugs - verify - clean and adequate distance from the electrodes to 10k, 30k - replace every 20k

2) Air Filter - Check and clean 10k, 30k - replace every 20k

I clean and check items 1 and 2, less often than recommended.

However the substitution is 20 to 20k.

The frequency of inspection and cleaning air filter, is intrinsic where you wheel

(only asphalt, dirt / dust?)

I wish you a pleasant journey. :good:

Cheers!

Treated the SN08 to two new Avon Storm 3D XM

Scrubbed  them in too.
