But the touring or the shorter one? Many thanks and regards!!!<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

I've just fitted the Acerbis dual road, not really that impressed with them, the super's look more substantial.
I only managed a short run this weekend, the acerbis handguards are definitely better than having nothing, they will do me for now but the tenere guards look the better choice!

Earlier I mentioned about the Super Tenere 1200 handguards, and then saw it has already been done. However, making the simplest of brackets means you don't need the genuine ones so total cost about £25 + VAT. Having used them now I can confirm that they work very well and 'miss' everything on lock. Anyone made any legshields yet?

Never bothered refitting the bar-end weights - no vibrations to speak of and less still since I did the airbox mod and fited a K&N filter and Fuel cans. Smooth power, quicker acceleration and improved flexibility - pulls well from 2500rpm and looks to be still just as good (60 mpg touring ) on fuel.

Hand Guards - Nutmeg - 28-11-2011

As a newbie on here, and to TDM's, there's a bewildering array of information on this thread regarding handguards.

Any chance someone could give me advice on the simplest variety to fit to a 1999 TDM 850 with standard bars.

Please also bear in mind that I don't have access to any specialist engineering gear (lathe, milling machine, taps and dies etc.) so I'd prefer spending a little extra on an 'off the shelf' solution rather than faffing around with hacksaws and drills and so on.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

hi mick.
I just fitted XTZ12 handguards two days ago.
Ibought all the bits from http://www.cyclepartswarehouse.com/default.asp in Texas for $68 US landed here in Queensland at my door.
I used aftermarket barend weights which were predrilled and tapped for an M6 bolt.
I put a rubber washer in between the barend and the handguard to stop rotation and used 20mm sections of compression spring with an outside diameter of 8mm and wire thickness of 1mm to bush between the M6 bolt and the M8 sized hole in the handguards outer alloy spigot.
all fitted and feels solid.
roll on winter .
cheers

I have just fitted a pair of Barkbuster Storm S1 onto my 900. Went straight on with no messing and they clear all the cables and tank. They are more for weather protection though as they only mount off the handle bars as standard. Made the brakets for the end of the bars from some aluminium section I had lying around which makes the guards much more stable.

I am sure this will have been posted before, but just in case

Hand Guards - mowgli - 07-10-2012

Afternoon all,

the bits for this mod are on order from Raceways, £65 for the lot! Piccys to follow, I've seen one done on a brand new TDM and it looks great. Iknow that handguards has been done to death and the usual suspects are the V-Strom and BMW versions but this looks like it will go straight on.

As an aside I saw the Ducati Hypermotard Handguards in raceways, they are pretty funky, heres a link for piccys:

Anybody tried these out? Fold away bar end mirrors no less...

Sorry John, not got the bits yet but the fella I know had this done by his dealer ( bought same year and colour TDM as yours) and all they did was retap the end weights. I'm going to hit B&Q to try and get longer screws first. As soon as they are on I will post pictures.

Hand Guards - LewisBlackburn - 09-10-2012

When i got mine from the yammy dealer they didn't cost that much.

Think it was either £34 or £43 for both hand guards and 2 brackets. I retapped the bar ends and put a screw through the guards and could only use one bracket after reshaping them to fit better. I made one for the left out of some flat bar.

They do look good though

Hand Guards - mowgli - 10-10-2012

Dont suppose there are any photos are there?
