850 Destruction - dablik - 04-08-2020 Purring like a kitten... mot man were'nt in today, nearly back. 850 Destruction - dapleb - 04-08-2020 What learnt it dabs? 850 Destruction - Studley Ramrod - 04-08-2020 I'm guessing more tiger in the tank ? 850 Destruction - dablik - 04-08-2020 Yup more tiger in me tank, were'nt enough last night, 5 litres in and off she went, only started up briefly but purring now the carbs are cleaned, wont be getting fuel from that station again, went off pretty quick.. mot this week, maybe tomoz if the weather plays ball.  If the idle screw is wound on full what sort of revs is normal on the mk1, cold engine !  Think i'll have to remove a little 10ml from the fork legs as only got around 80mm of travel, not sure if it's cos it's all newly done and need to ride it or, if the springs were actually progressive and needing 10mm less oil, cant remember now it's a blur, oh and oiler sorted, me likee, short twist and chain oiled :good: 850 Destruction - Studley Ramrod - 04-08-2020 I can check the max tickover screw revs when cold thingy tomato.  Does the oiler only work when the engine's running ? 850 Destruction - dablik - 04-08-2020 Quote:I can check the max tickover screw revs when cold thingy tomato. Cheers Ian, just curious to see where i'm at with the idle on high when cold.  No the oiler is manual, no elctronics or vacuum required, it just needs a 90 degree twist of the cap and it will oil the chain for a few minutes, works lovely, if it's raining just do it more often, nice piece of kit, yet to see what it's like in the real world but Ramo loves his and he's a fkn fussy badger..  I think i may of filled me fork legs with 500ml each leg instead of 395ml...oops, it's possible knowing me as i do ![]() 850 Destruction - Studley Ramrod - 04-08-2020 Whats the oiler called again please ? Can't find the previous conversation about it.  Yeah, deffo 395mm. ![]() 850 Destruction - dablik - 04-08-2020 The main one is a Cobra but that's a £100 other copies available though, hang fire and i'll go check a link Ramo sent me last year....  Oiler I'ts from China and £10 cheaper than when i bought one.. 850 Destruction - Studley Ramrod - 04-08-2020 Cheers buddy, I've got it saved in my ebay favs. :good: 850 Destruction - dablik - 04-08-2020 Quote:Cheers buddy, I've got it saved in my ebay favs. :good::good: 850 Destruction - dablik - 05-08-2020 Quote:I can check the max tickover screw revs when cold thingy tomato. Yoohoo did you remember.. 850 Destruction - Studley Ramrod - 05-08-2020 Daaang, totally forgot mate. I'll go check it now. 850 Destruction - Studley Ramrod - 05-08-2020 Reet, from cold it gets up to just short of 2000rpm then it starts spluttering and won't go any higher. 850 Destruction - dablik - 05-08-2020 Quote:Reet, from cold it gets up to just short of 2000rpm then it starts spluttering and won't go any higher. Brilliant and cheers matey, that gives me a good comparison against mine, i thought it should be a bit higher, mine is just creeping over 2000rpm and i now know me idle is back to working proper...nice one :good: 850 Destruction - dablik - 06-08-2020 So started her up this morning and got a little popping again, warmed her up and off to mot the long way round, passed mot no problem but all is not sweet, looks like i was doing 150mph at 4000 revs recording mileage so i guess me needle is fooked up a bit... Leaky fuel tap, me fix never worked, then noticed when i got home oil pressure light flickering, checked oil level and that's good, hopefully just a dodgy earth !  However i'm bogging down right between 3-4000 revs, could'nt get past the slow drivers on a bendy road :unsure2: otherwise seems okay, fingers crossed... So do i have more shoite in me carbs from the last of the crappy fuel maybe or i need to tweek the pilot screws, currently set at 2&2/3, guess i'll have to check and see if they are cruddy up again.   Ian remind me will ya for bogging down at 3-4000 revs, off to look for me other fuel tap, it's hiding somewhere.. 850 Destruction - drewpy - 06-08-2020 Quote:So started her up this morning and got a little popping again, warmed her up and off to mot the long way round, passed mot no problem but all is not sweet, looks like i was doing 150mph at 4000 revsÂi replaced the O rings in both my fuel taps as they dried oot after standing dry I have a spare speedo if you want it as I hate throwing things away. using a GPS model now as I couldn't get past the overreading on the speed 850 Destruction - dablik - 06-08-2020 Cheers drew, i'll take a look at this one 1st and see if it's fixable, might be the speedo cable is not fully wound in, was working okay before hand otherwise i'll shout although i was hankering for a gps speedo also, seem to recall you did'nt have a trip meter on yours though ? plenty out there.  I also replaced the O rings in the fuel tap, incidentally i've just loosened it off to look, i thought my repair to the reserve nipple had gone west but it looks like fuel escaping from the fuel line right against the tap, i think that may have a bunch of crud in it, i'll have to take the tank off tomorrow and sort it, had hoped to be riding, oh well looks like i will have to fix all the small problems 1st, that's the way it goes.  I'll bare the speedo in mind though thanks, will use a gps speedo app on my phone in the mean time.. 850 Destruction - dablik - 06-08-2020 So further to this bogging down, given that the carb's were gunked up with jelly goo i reckon i may well have the remnants in them now, already checked the vacuum line, air filter, airbox is tight and coil connections, the HT leads are wrapped in tape so dont think it's them, check the plugs and make sure they are screwed in and seated properly, my money is on a fuel issue and i'm gonna check the carbs again, set the pilot screws out to 3 turns, certainly feels like a fuel issue, wish i had the forethought to pull the choke out while it was happening but dont think it's lean.. may as well drain the tank as it's coming off to remove the fuel tap...anything i've missed. 850 Destruction - Studley Ramrod - 06-08-2020 Bogging down is usually a rich problem. Pilots control tickover to 2000rpm so it could be needle clip position or fuel levels too high. Assuming everything else is set up to spec and nothing else happening.  :EDIT. Did you have plenty of fuel in the tank ? 850 Destruction - dablik - 06-08-2020 Quote:Bogging down is usually a rich problem. Pilots control tickover to 2000rpm so it could be needle clip position or fuel levels too high. Assuming everything else is set up to spec and nothing else happening. No not a whole lot of fuel, about 7 litres approx, needle clip position is the same as previously when it was running before stripping the bike, not changed owt there, fuel levels were checked twice, then had the carbs apart some days ago to clean the crud out, bogging only became noticeable after 3 or 4 miles.. |
