(With the exception of one of my dominator engines, oil burner from day one). Ta Dave, good info, i think it stands to reason not to rev the arse out of it, then again their are those who would disagree. Quote:When I rebuilt my MK2 SEP refubed the crank,I put new rings in /hone, when started I let it tick over for about 5secs to listen to it and then started to blip it on the throttle for about a minute to put some pressure ot the rings, then got me gear on and went out on it,3 thou limit in the lower gears and 3 1/2 in top.Accellerate quicky up to the rev limit and also shut the throttle when at max revs as I understand you will put as much pressure on the rings decellerating as acellerating (dont do this if someones behind you) Cheers Mick, more good info and actually that's around the sweet spot on B roads innit, wish i could jump on right after a start but have insurance to sort yet and want an agreed price before i go anywhere.. 850 Destruction - Studley Ramrod - 21-05-2020 Got the test results yet mucka ? :unsure2: 850 Destruction - alanfavell - 21-05-2020 ![]() 850 Destruction - dablik - 21-05-2020 Quote:Got the test results yet mucka ? :unsure2: Not yet, be awhile as coming by post.... 850 Destruction - dablik - 21-05-2020 Quote: Patience, patience and me noggin well protected thanks, 50 factor which i actually have to use everyday even if snowing and me bushwacker/foreign legion hat.  So i braved the sweltering heat yesterday, big umbrella up for a bit of shade, well she started like a quiet fart only one pot i reckon and quit only to refuse to start again, summit amiss.. looks like i poked and loosened the ignition lead out with me multi meter probe when testing for continuity [attachment=o13196]  Sorted that and she still would'nt start, hmmm poke about some leads to find another problem [attachment=o13197][attachment=o13198]  Sorted that.............then me battery was pookered, stuck it on charge furra few hours and went out to start it in the cool of the evening but it was like being in Scotland, kamikaze midgies so quick turn about cos i is a wuss :punishment: Now then another bash [attachment=o13199]  No joy, oh my, pulled the plugs and a bit oily but no suprise as it's had some down the plug hole, cleaned, put em back and guess what ![]() 850 Destruction - Studley Ramrod - 21-05-2020 Nadi called you in for tea ?           Only kidding. Bike musta started then.  850 Destruction - dablik - 21-05-2020 Quote:Nadi called you in for tea ? Bit early for tea mucka, twas the next day, would'nt start, wanted to but no go, so went and got the car battery again and jumped the bike battery..........        :badgerrock: both pots 1st press the button, blipped the throttle and tweaked the idle up a tad, 1500 revs brum brum brum brum brum brum.....loads a smoke on start up and the right pot exhaust continued puffing away after shut down furra good minute, anyhoo only let it run for abot 30 seconds, downpipes hot, gave it a second start and made a tiny vid, no nasty sounds i can hear, exhaust sounds nice and no leaks, i'll be keeping me fingers crossed it all contines in the same vein from here on....  850 Destruction - dapleb - 21-05-2020 Vidvidvidvid. Quote:Scary times eh. Pant pooping moment  although i had already cranked it from the starter, funny it would'nt start on a fully charge bike battery though, wonder if the engin's a bit tight..850 Destruction - Studley Ramrod - 21-05-2020 Might be all that oil eh. Soaking the plugs afore they get the chance to spark. Lots of smoke leads me to think this. Next job, going through the gears ? 850 Destruction - dablik - 21-05-2020 Quote:Might be all that oil eh. Soaking the plugs afore they get the chance to spark. Lots of smoke leads me to think this. Next job, going through the gears ? Defo, i mean it's had a few dollops down the plug holes a cupla times, think the Graphogen added to the smoke also, gears hmmm, work fine when the motors off but was wondering wether to run it through them or not, not sure wots best really, cant ride it yet either, maybe a 10 min warm up but then idle really needs to be lower to run the gear. 850 Destruction - MickC - 21-05-2020 Now get the feck out on it and get it dirty :good: 850 Destruction - Studley Ramrod - 21-05-2020 ![]()  Going through the gears would circulate the oil around them and prolly get the clutch plates going. More important though, peace of mind. ![]() 850 Destruction - alanfavell - 21-05-2020 Yea it's a go-er. Well done that man :clapping: :drinks: 850 Destruction - leehenty - 21-05-2020 It's a go'er now put the rest if it together and get mot, take her for a gentle bimble 850 Destruction - Snowbird - 22-05-2020 Last week I had to go out and get a rebuilt engine started in a light aircraft that wouldn't spin over, it had stood for a good while and when we tested it we squirted acf down the bores to stop it rotting, the owner had tried lots of batteries with no joy and assumed the engine was tight. I tried it with plugs out and it was sweet, with plugs in even with a 4' prop for leverage the compression was evil, I had to fit a lower geared starter and jump from a big battery before we could get it going but once run and warmed up to clear it spun over on his small battery and starter fine. In the process I managed to start a wee fire around spilt fuel and had to blast it with a powder fire extinguisher, what a bloody mess that was to clear up! Best bit is that it was a kit built fokker replica in red baron colours with a german owner sat in the cockpit when I set it on fire, and it was just after VE day! That's the way to celebrate VE day....... Don't do the last bit with your bike, it was not a good moment. |
