Quote:I would have to look that up and don't have pc set up at the mo. Mayhaps SR can remember. It's not one single bill. It's various bills throughout the year for domain, ipb hosting...more ipb...hosting changing already agreed terms etc etc.

Yeah, too much. lol  I can't remember exactly how much but it prolly comes in around £350-£400 a year.  SB, costs will depend on what type of website you're wanting.  A website with forums, member posts, gallery and picture posting will prolly cost a fair bit more than a basic website offering information. We have to pay every year for the software (Invision Power Board) and we're also obliged to update the software and keep up with security updates and bug fixes which can take up a fair bit of time esp. if, like moi, you're not really experienced at doing it.  The host provides the space for our software which is only ever taking up more space as more posts and pics are put up and the site software expands.

Some software providers, ours included, will also provide the space and technical expertise to maintain the site but it will prolly at least double the cost.

Have you looked at IONOS SB ?  Their prices are nearly half of what we're paying for hosting and they also offer nearly 3 times the storage (20GB) We're looking into moving there next year, after we update our software.

Well done SR far more comprehensive than my guessing!

Carpe has been very lucky before as the host server was owned by MrJ a carpe member. Sadly he died a coupla five years back and since then the service has rapidly decreased and waved at the prices as they rapidly passed going t'other way!

Yikes! I was with ionos when I 'inherited' the website and had to pay an outstanding bill to keep it alive (we only found out Trevor had died when the site went down and I had all the passwords) and I thought £86 was a lot, then found it was for 6 months only, after trying to deal with their customer/tech services I had to get shot as they were completely inept and ended up going over to hostgator, £80 for a 3 year hosting package then goes up to about a third of ionos price, I had to go for a windows package as the forum was .asp based with access database file and didn't want to lose all the old info, I get unlimited storage/bandwidth/mysql databases for one domain just not the fastest servers or most up to date but it's a relatively low traffic site so it will do fine.

Snitz 2000 is the existing forum which is free and easy, I get a ready done phpbb3 forum if wanted but can't bring in old data to it so still with snitz.

If you need some spare storage or a database gimme a shout.

If our host was completely inept it'd be a blessing Lol  But thanks for the heads up SB.  Finding a compatible host at the right price is gonna be a challenge, one that suits our website and has experience of hosting IPB software whilst letting us preserve all the data so that it's still useable, and at a good price is what we need.

IPB isn't perfect for our site either, the never ending updates and new versions see us having to install more complex software, most/all of which we don't need or use.  We also have to learn the new stuff which takes a lot of time and often involves quite a few risky moments hitting unknown buttons. Lol

Soz if this makes no sense but wankered, biggest problem is keeping a forum going without losing the history hence I'm stick with windows server

*RECURRING SUBSCRIPTIONS*

Please check to see if you set it up like this and cancel these as not required. We cant cancel it for you.

Some details from wobbo on how to check and cancel.

Dappers, I went into my history file on Paypal. Found the payment item and clicked on it. Doing that brings up a page with details of the subscription. There are options to edit it or to cancel the subscription.

Still some recurring subs. Please go into paypoop and check as above. We can't do this for you. We don't need recurring subs at the mo...will let you know when the schplongs get low. Xx

Updated now doggy thanks for letting us know. You were already a sporting from a while ago so there was no need to repay, it just needed updating. I can ask the ecumenical one to refund it if yer loike?

I may still have some stickers stashed. The mugs were a one time run and doubt there would be enough interest for an udder batch.

For all sportings:

Subs will start to run out soon but please don't repay subs...we will eventually update all the existing sporting members for another freebie year. NO NEED TO PAY OUBT
