Estate Cars. Thinking Of Getting One - fixitsan - 09-08-2022

Quote:No but am interested in how you go about doing this. Do you have an automatic gearbox as I have a manual box and don't have a choice of modes?

Ah, sorry if I mistook it.

The software needed is called VCDS, and you need a suitable OBD programming cable which plugs into the standard OBD socket

some details here https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/494411-anyone-used-vcds-to-change-throttle-response-audi/

It seems only 2016 onwards Superbs, Octavias and others can deal with it.

But the Superb Mk2 can still use VCDS to change some of the parameters for the car, such as (if you have them) moving the electric front seats backwards to help you in and out of the car https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/347812-top-3-vcds-changes-to-your-superb/

Here's the main BriskSkoda Superb mk2 forum, should you need it (if you don't already know about it) https://www.briskoda.net/forums/forum/136-skoda-superb-mk-ii/ Plenty of tips and tricks

I've got VCDS and a dongle with an unlimited number of VINs, so if you need to make a tweak I sometimes travel up north on the bike, I could bring it with me if you need it

Mine is the manual 6 speed, cruises at 2000rpm at about 70 and in ideal conditions gets the sort of mpg smaller cars struggle to achieve, which has been handy recently with the hike in fuel prices

Quote:Never heard of that. :unsure2:  Suspect crap oil or servicing.
In the days before common rail, VW Pump Deuse engine had a high pressure pump built into each injector, so the cam followers were under great pressures. When they paid Bosch to use common rail all became good

Well aware how these work but still not a prob we've had.

Never to old to learn, just remembering it. Lol

Quote:Sorry Studders but your not thinking outside of the box. You need to go big..........BIG

Fair to say I've had a few cars in my time but this is my choice for you.

3) Chevy Surburban. 9 seats you could get a Fiesta in the back. 12 mpg

2) Ford F150 Supercrew. Harley Davidson 100yr Edition. 5.8 Supecharged and around 400 bhp. 11 mpg

1) Ford F150 Flareside. Suicide doors. 5.4v8. On a run 22 mpg

Off you go and surprise the other half!!

Cats
Lol 11mpg  Huh  I do like the Merkin offerings but way too thirsty for me. What are you driving these days Martin ?

:wifgeni: lol.

Quote:My MK1 is tax exempt because it's classed as clapped out (25yr old +), Ford Focus and daughters Pug 207 around 70euros each a year in tax. There's an advantage in living in a remote village in the middle of Nada, España Nice car btw Studley. Neighbour has one and it's Luxurious with a capital L.

Kinda makes sense not having to tax the mk1, they've contributed to lowering the carbon footprint. My Focus was £255 a year Rolleyes It's a lot comfier than my old Focus  :good:

Estate Cars. Thinking Of Getting One - Studley Ramrod - 09-08-2022

Taxed it this morning.  Apparently one still has to tax it even though it does'nt cost anything.  Insurance was about the same as my car tax in the focus, saving already.  No way will i be able to get 60-70mpg.  Took it steady today and got an average of 58mpg.  Still way better than the focus, 25-40mpg, though. Smile

Estate Cars. Thinking Of Getting One - leehenty - 09-08-2022

Thanks for the link to the Skoda forum, Fixit,I've gone on and registered with them and will probably have a couple of queries for them. I've got an Elegance 139 4 x 4 so fuel consumption a little higher than the standard model but still better than even my 2009 Kia Rio diesel. Got diesel for £1.78 yesterday in Beauly of all places.

Thanks for the offer of the electronic tweaks but I think I'll leave things as they are, I'm still trying to get to grips with what the standard bells and whistles are. Next time your heading up north on the bike give me a shout and maybe arrange a meet.

This is Bradley Cooper. No road tax, 70mpg and £125 FC

Had the wheels painted BMW Atlantic Blue with added glitter. Unreal in sunshine

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that your car looks as well looked after as your bike!

Estate Cars. Thinking Of Getting One - Dickiebig - 13-08-2022

Just my 2D worth. My firm ran Vauxhall's and they always had issues especially egr valves. They switched to Toyota's and they run like a top.

I don't have personal experience of Toyota's a my side went to BMW I have had 2 X 320 and 2 X 520d all good comfy power full reasonable on fuel but not totally reliable but mostly just general wear and tear. However parts and BMW technicians are blooming dear

Estate Cars. Thinking Of Getting One - Studley Ramrod - 13-08-2022

Looks good Cats :good:

Quote:Nowt wrong with Peugot's, our little 108's been all over this country with nary a problem...........................................YET, but the same can be said of any manufacturer.

Take it back....fookin clutch gone at 34000 miles   seems quite common, poorly adjusted clutch cable (pedal) and the thrust bearing wears out, good job it happened just before the bridge to my mechanic, gearbox out to repair........bollocks.

Estate Cars. Thinking Of Getting One - dapleb - 17-08-2022

I'm on orig clutch in the slug. ..... Never been touched. Getting a bit crunchy at 193,000 moiles...but determined not to change until 200,000.

So the improvement of technology over the years has led to 30,000mile clutches!!!??

Estate Cars. Thinking Of Getting One - dablik - 17-08-2022

Yea indeed, would rather have to check the oil each time it's used than repalce a clutch at this mileage.

Estate Cars. Thinking Of Getting One - dablik - 18-08-2022

£600 to replace, buggers got me by the danglies, no time to go elswhere due to both our work patterns   that's a lorra biking innit.

Estate Cars. Thinking Of Getting One - dapleb - 18-08-2022

Eeeks

Don't suppose kevin-albert is anywhere near you. He does mobile clutch changes. Quite enjoy watching one of his vids every now and then.

Gotta be a few peeps doing similar.

I'm a bit surprised by hardly any suggestions to buy Japanese  Tongue - I think I would hardly ever consider buying a non-Jap motorbike or car.

My Corolla '03 with 250kkm on the clock has never stopped, had no issues other than exhaust rot, a broken rear spring and of course maintenance items - making for an extremely hassle-free, cheap ownership.

What would be the parallel in motorcycle world? A TDM?  Lol
