What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - Snowbird - 28-05-2024

I hope you lot are finding better weather gaps for biking than I am for boating, currently sitting at oulton broad and it's passing down again.....

Why did I pick this week for a holiday???

Me and Mandi have got this week off too. Forecast is crap for the rest of the week so I'll not even bother taxing the bikes yet.

If you're both still about at the weekend, we're playing at Sprowston Social Club from 8:30 on Saturday.

I seem have acquired a bloody cold.

I fitted another Ohlins, on this latest TDM900 and went for a spin

Not the same Ohlins as before though. This one was an Ebay find, I was nervy about it, but the seller said they would accept a return.  It works fine, lots of gas, which hopefully translates to lots of life

The 'other' Ohlins is another story. The top bush was split and started to ease itself out of the top eye. I spoke to Ohlins who put me in touch with their local specialist, because they wouldn't deal directly with me.

I dropped it off back in March to get a new top bushing at ERS racing (ex Knockhill race circuit) , The proprietor, is a great guy, we agreed that as I was not in a rush he would wait till he had a batch of parts to be ordered from Germany, in order to split the delivery charge across orders.

After a month, I found out there had been some customs issues and the package was returned.

After another month (and after the spring had been powder coated) I was told the part was on it's way. No bother.

It should have been ready last week, but when Eddie of ERS opened up the shock to give it a wee service it appears to have been abused, the shims weren't great but the worst damage was to the inside of the shock tube, the coating was scratched up. A new tube is out of stock. So it sits in Dunfermline, waiting for a new tube, hurry up Ohlins !

I'm going to end up with two good Ohlins rear shocks, so one will be up for sale. Either my recent good Ebay one with black spring, or a fully rebuilt unit with new shims, tube , top bush and freshly coated yellow spring (Both springs are one step up  on standard strength, for the larger chaps)..

When the rebuilt one comes back I'll post a message in the for sale section

Trev and Snowy....I know where you're coming from. We've just a week in Norfolk in our motorhome. Total washout most days.As a Norfolk boy from the 70s, I can't believe the amount of change towards tourism there! Rose tinted glasses maybe, but blardy hell!!!

Serviced the dreaded rear suspension linkage... Fortunately, the bearing spacer came out with just a gentle tap using a drift. I feel rather lucky having read some of the horror stories on here.

New Michellin Road 6 on the front too, with a new wheel bearing seal, as one had started to perish. £1.50 from the local bearing supply shop (y).

Took mine for a long late weekend Sun - Tues up north - Moray, Easter Ross, Sutherland and as far as Helmsdale.

Glorious weather bar the showers for the return run on Tuesday.

Here's me at Balintore, Easter Ross looking East across the Moray Firth on Monday.

Quote:Changed the rear shock. Even though I promised myself I wouldn't spend on this bike... At least it was only a 30 minute job.

...and now I've changed the handlebar for a Renthal 755. Better. So looking for another bike...

Upgraded my JBX-inspired gear indicator - it was a very faint led segment but I found a pre-wired number indicator online which went straight on the original connector without the need for any diodes in between. 5 still doesn't work but that's fine. I just know if it's not showing a number I'm either stopped or in top gear! It's a sprocket off job to check so that can wait.

Unfortunately, members are limited in the amount of storage Steve. It's part of how we keep costs to sportin's virtually free.

Lovely blue colour Smile

I need to do mine, on 900 number two.

I had a go last week but it's well and truly seized in. There is fortunately very little play in the bearing itself, so it ought to pass the MOT on Thursday, then I'll have a 'really good go' at it Smile

What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - fixitsan - 12-06-2024

Advanced the timing on my 900 3 or 4 degrees by slotting the crank sensor mounting. The bike was already perky with the PC3, but it's added a bit more eagerness low down.

Had a good look over it prior to the MOT tomorrow, but nothing jumped out at me as a potential for failure so started to give it a clean and shine.

And then I rode it to the local supermarket, via the A70 Lang Wang , a total of a 32 mile diversion Smile

MOT passed, but with an advisory for a slack chain. To be fair I should have tweaked it before presenting the bike, but it's done now Smile

Had the same comment for mine when I took it in. It's spot on when I'm sitting on it.

Same here, always got this comment with the Tdm.

No not the normal amount, it was touching the exhaust !  He knew it should be very slack compared to most bikes, so he's aware of this TDM quirk already, and when I tried to argue he pointed out it was hitting the link pipe......my own foolish oversight

It could do with a new chain and sprockets, although they're still in the 'safe enough for an MOT category', but only just.l
