I'm the opposite. I use what is convenient. I was measuring something yesterday and it was 559mm, but it was bang on 22", so I cut 22" x 600mm. Just the way my brain works.

When I started work I was in a project to metricate an aluminium rolling mill. All the measuring instruments, procedures, documents, product specs etc were recalculated so 1" = 25.4mm is engraved on my brain.

Ten years later we were still making sheets 914 x 1829 and 1219 x 2438 mm!!

Well actually that makes sense and i would probably do the same, in general i just find metric easier.

I suppose practice makes perfect in your case.

Quickly replace the rear shock, I thought. Had a Hagon sitting around for a while. Read up about it and thought, EASY!

Not so. Suspended bike from the rafter in garage. Mine is a 06 ABS. So I first looked for the top bolt going through. No chance, there is a reservoir in the way. Looked for the top bolt for the bracket under the battery, not there. The battery tray is a one piece including the fender. Removing the whole rear frame would give good access! B....r that! Undid the reservoir, one bolt, and removed the hinge bolt from the tank. Removed the fairing sides. Now I could wedge the tank up with wood blocks, quite high. Push the reservoir up an awful long way to clear that darn bolt. Installing the new shock was easy then.

Alltogether 3 hours. Quick spin on it in the rain. Oh Goodness. What a difference. Should have done this years ago.

While the fairings were of I troubleshot the heated grips. Tended to get warm and then turned themselves off. Traced it to dodgy corroded connectors. Always wondered why Oxford can't use decent connectors. Those are exactly the same as we use on RC models. Futaba, Tamiya etc. Now solder jointed and sealed in self- amalgamating tape. All good. Ready for the season.

After recovering from a cough that laid me low and lasted for nearly three months I thought I'd give the 9er some attention.

Changed the oil, filter, plugs and air filter. Then thought it's about time the dreaded suspension bushes were done. I found a collection of rawlplugs and wall anchors, dusted-off the trusty hot air gun and set to work.

I should have realised when the near-side silencer (stock) refused to release the exhaust pipe that this was not going to be a quick and easy job.  Use of the heat gun and hammer persuaded the silencer to let go, and the doglegs and shock absorber  bushes slid out nicely.  Same can't be said for the last one. I've tried the rawlplug heat and tap method but only succeeded in tapping the rawlplug out of the bush.

It seems to be stuck fast!

Kinda long time i didnt visited this great forum. Its 8 years since im owner of this TDM. I dont ride it as much but i do taking care of it.

Topbox rack had two cracks. So i took it to professional to weld it and after that i gave it antiaging therapy.

Brackets also got new finish.

Plate is old, but cleaned and threated with exterior plastic protector.

Finaly i found some reasonable compact brackets for lights. Lights are still missaligned because i did not installed battery yet.

Centre stand was refurbished also. It had some stone chips.

This bike is 20 year old, so it deserves some professional antiaging. Yes, there was better bikes, but TDM... Somehow, its so well made in every aspect.

Some polishing, ceramic coatings, etc.

New fork seal in the left leg. I did the other side last year, so not shocked this one has worn out too. Not bad though, it lasted 63k miles before it failed.

….Next up, new boots and refurbished wheels and some new front pads as they’re getting a little low. Sportsbike shop has EBC HH pads on offer at the moment for a bargain £19/pair for the blue spots.

What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - Alekre - 10-04-2024

Yesterday i received long awaited windscreen. Due to size it was needed to change handlebar position as well as mirrors and levers angle Because mirrrors were hitting into windscreen.

Also i took chance to add rubber skirts to mirrors threads and bracket for the switch was powdercoated with new bolts. It had some rust and it was not pretty on look.

Now i need to format and install new battery, and its ready for technical inspection. After that i will reinstall and adjust aux. lights because MOT dont tolerate them. The bad thing i accidentaly find out is that right fairing panel brackets somehow got broken. I dont know how realy. Bike is threaten like princess. I will adress this issue later probably by welding it.

How big is the windshield? 55cm? Can you share link or manufacturer name please?

What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - danielcarway - 11-04-2024

I MoT'd it after nearly 6 years off the road. I wondered if I'd forget how to ride but the muscle memory soon kicked in. We're back, baby!

What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - Jsiddle - 11-04-2024

MOT passed today. I got the rear linkages regreased at the same time.

Probably going to get the Datatool 3 alarm/immobiliser removed next week as it's beginning to play up - not what I want before a camping trip to Scotland !
