It’s more likely to be the ht leads arcing on the frame or a loose connection on the misfiring coil, I’d check the wiring out and cover it in self amalgamating tape first, or change the leads. The plugs aren’t that difficult to change once you’ve got the radiator forward, don’t forget to plug the rad pipes.

Prefer the smaller screen, taller screen wasn't much quieter but it wobbles the fairing where it attaches about like jelly on rough roads or headwind. I've seen some people put the sat nav brace on but I don't see that will make much difference. It's still an improvement with the small screen. I can hear the Bluetooth/intercom at up to 70 where as anything over 50 without it is no good.



I'm happy with it for 80 quid, I like the adjustability. It improves rather than transforms it, but it was never gonna compare to the k100lt I had for a while, that was like sitting in a car!

If your bike ran ok coming home, I'd tend to leave it as is.
 

Thanks, unfortunately still running rough. I've never had trouble with it before and it just started about one mile after leaving home (MOT garage was only about 4 miles away, I was hoping it might clear itself on the way back, but no such luck)..

I've always habitually serviced the electrics, by opening and closing every connector, particularly under the tank and behind the headstock. While they're apart a quick spray with an electrical cleaner/lubricant can restore poor connections causing intermittent faults. I do it roughly once per year. Even the handlebar switchgear benefit from a spray into their guts

 

If your bike has never had any serious work carried out on it, the electrical connectors have been mated for over 20 years now, and thats long enough for all the different types of electrical connector corrosion in non-waterproof connectors to develop.

 

I use Servisol Super 10, contact cleaner & lubricant, in the past the better product to use was Deoxit, because it actually broke down products of oxidation, but it's more expensive

 

If not a dirty terminal, then the crimp at each terminal which holds the wire in place, if stressed (or made too firmly when the bike was assembled), can actually break the wires in the insulation and give you no external clue that it's broke

Yay ! Changed the plugs. I think that this might have been the first time they've seen daylight in 20 years  :unsure2: . The colour of them looks fine so I'm not sure whether the cause of the misfire was electrical or fuel (or a blocked injector from crappy E10?)  I'm ordering up some new HT leads in any case.  In the meantime I want to put some fresh fuel in it and see if it's any different.

 

I now need to top up the coolant having lost some when disconnecting the radiator. Any suggestions what to use to be compatible with the old (yellow) stuff already in there?  I know it's overdue a change/flush but I was going to do that after I know it is running ok. Or, as a temporary measure, should I just fill it with the bottles of de-ionised water I found lurking at the back of the garage?

De-ionised water for now if you're changing later.

Yellow antifreeze suggests that it's glycol based. Any other glycol based coolant will do.

Water from the tap might be fine, but it depends, as there's huge regional variations

Using a TDS meter (total dissolved solids), a colleague of mine near London gets a reading over 300 (way too high), family in Yorkshire have a readong of 170, bottled water has a reading between 100- 250, and lab grade water has a reading of 5 or less.

But if you're in West Lothian, the tap water here has a TDS reading of just 24, so for topping up coolant it would be fine for me.

 

Failing that, deionised is your safest bet unless you know from testing what your tapwater is like (using a TDS meter) . In general, if you are somewhere where you need to use decalcifying tablets in your kettle or washing machine it's not ideal, but I haven't heard of many people suffering much from using tapwater, I've always done it

Mot on the niner. Another clean sheet although the tester did tweak the headlamp adjustment a little. Following all of the suspension work just done, the setting had changed a little.

the sat nav is amazing. you can get weather overlay so if your in the rain, you can see live cloud cover and head away from it. fully wifi and bluetooth.

Going to just south of Oban on Saturday, then round Mull on Sunday. Staying in Acharacle on Sunday night then will see what the weather is doing before deciding where to go on Monday. It is looking like light rain at the moment
