Got it out for the first ride for three and a half months, thanks to Covid and a subsequent infection draining my strength.

Only went 20 miles - for an X-ray - but didn't it feel good!!!

But that engine is worth it!
I had a Nitron shock fitted with the optional remote preload many years ago and I'm well pleased with it. I used a local suspension specialist who also fitted progressive front springs and set the whole thing up. Not cheap but I've always felt it was money well spent especially after all the miles I've put on it since

Gave her a run up to Tyndrum, for a bowl of cullen of sknk.
Noticed earlier this week she gave out some smoke haze from the exhausts, on the hottest day of the year, with the temp gauge in the top 1/3rd of the display. I'm taking it as a little warning sign a top end rebuild is on the cards, but it doesn't seem to be affecting performance as on the way back I was playing with a Triumph street triple, who started to go backwards in my mirrors at one point

Pretty sure I'd got the alarm removed with wires connected correctly but,
at one point I had error code 11 pop up on the dash but has returned so I'll forget the for the mo.
Also got error 19 side stand with open circuit and the starter won't turn over. SS switch checks out ok on the meter so after a little head scratching and looking at the diagram I test the diode and sure enough no circuit either way I connect.
Any of you fine gents got a spare lurking in the shed?

Tackled the cold start mechanism on my new to me 9er. Did this about 10 years ago on my old one but this time managed to mangle the screw so throttle bodies off job...all back together now and is purring again (short of a test ride as my temporary insurance ran out)

I was always nervous about the meta alarm on my FZ1, but had found a plug and play adaptor for about £20 which disables it assuming it had been wired in correctly.

I'll have a look at the couple of relays I've got here tomorrow and see if I have one of those.

The simplest way to test a diode is with a 12V battery and a small 12v bulb, in series with the diode. The bulb should light well with the diode one way and not at all, not even dimly, the other way. Not a definitive test but useful for a sanity check at least.
Plenty of digital meters have a continuity function on them, but I've noticed they all make a beep at different levels of resistance, there's no standard at all, so where one might beep for a few ohms of resistance and not higher than 10 Ohms, some still beepo as if there's continuity over a 50 Ohm resistor. Perhaps there's a standard I've overlooked but every meter type I've used have all had slightly different 'continuity thresholds'. Best thing to check is the diodes resistance both ways, but you don't discover high current leakage phenomenon and failures using the low current of the meter.

Multimeters have a diode symbol on one resistance range, ISTR 2kohms. Only that scale may be used for semiconductor testing for conducting direction.

I've always tested diodes on a meter using ohms as the current will only run one way but the symbol used on the yam wiring isn't the normal diode.
Have to look into that later.
and always turn the bloody beep off.

The one I have is a 2UJ-81950-00, which I believe is an 850 version, so probably no use

Looking at that loom on eBay, the relay is 5ea-****0-00. I've asked him to confirm the No. Thinking they may be a different prefix for different bikes but the same thing.
Scrap that, just been looking at a few Yam variations and they're all different.

I looked at that too. different prefix and even different suffixes, there are differences between '-00' versions and '-10' versions as far as I can tell

Got the bike MOT'd on Monday, passed with no advisories (thanks Chris @ Heritage Motorcycles). TAX'd on Tuesday, then down to Wicky's final goodbye on Wednesday. Ran like clock work but still testing mileage after carb rebuild but it looks quite good.
