try swinton i had tdm as lead bike and 2 others smaller bikes for £180 or or bemoto the don't charge for changes to policy so could change from ktm to tdm

Thanks for that

I used to have a 4 bike policy with Bennetts , £320, the KTM 620 is 26 years old but it costs more to insure than the TDM usually, because I think they view it as more a of a Hooligan bike.

Ill look at Swinton, I might try swapping the KTM for the TDM on my current policy and then look for a cheap classic policy for the KTM, given it's age

Ordered a pair of tyres and had a little cry over the bill. Confusedorry:

Road attack 3's for £247.50 delivered, I don't suppose tyres are going down in price any time soon.

:good:

Plus, the way the KTM chews rear tyres (single cylinder torque pulse induced wear) is alarming, compared to the TDM !

see TDM is the best bike after all

I've had the KTM's supermoto seat between my legs for 6 hours today (Livingston, Tyndrum, Oban and back) , so my TDM would definitely be comfier !

The weather was outstanding all day which made up for it.

Snow capped mountains, open roads, lots of sun, no serious tourist traffic, and with a  Wetherspoons  menu for lunch in Oban harbour,

Average speed cameras are implemented more here, but still , there's plenty of amazing scenery to see.

But the KTM, at 26 years old, is almost untouchable in the twisties Wink (just needs a better bloody seat !)

Washed it, rolled it out of the garage, ran it up the street, checked all lights work and gave everything needing grease a generous helping. Tyres good, bearings good.

Going to phone my MOT tester tomorrow morning and see what he can do for me this week

Phoned the local MOT tester and got it booked for a 4pm test.

Only done 3300 miles since the last test since I rode the KTM everywhere, anyway, it passed with no advisories Smile

I got insurance quotes down to £75 (not bad, considering I have 6 performance points) , but when adding all the breakdown and leather/ helmet cover it came to £175, so I phoned Bennetts who have my KTM policy, they've changed me on to a multibike policy, giving me all the breakdown etc I already had, covering both bikes, for only an additional £75....and then I taxed it for £96 (My 2litre diesel car with 150 BHP only costs £20 tax, so as usual they're having a larfffff ! )

First ride in six months.... it's smooth, so smooth compared to the thumper. The TDM's  snickety-snick 6 speed 'box beats the agricultural 5 gears of the KTM, my backside fits the seat, and she sounds great too.

The MOT tester reckons he only has one other bike with a phone number for mileage, and at 109,690 it feels like there's a lot of life left in it. It can't handle the twisties like the little KTM but I don't think that's meant to be it's forte anyway. Smile

Finished the annual service including the full rear suspension link greasing (the collar slid out nae bother) and new brake fluid. Oh for a spin-on oil filter- the Yamaha belly pan support frame really gets in the way.

Took it a ride into Edinburgh for a bit of business. Great weather.

The bus lane Westwards out of the city to Newbridge is magic - passed all the commuters queueing in one half of the road while I had the other half all to myself.

That's two bikes servced, now for the CBX750 and get it out of hibernation - about ten years!! Pass the shopping list.

I praise the buslanes, in fact they're great in a car at weekends. Even though the blue sign says that they're bus lanes only Monday to Friday, it's like a free lane on a Saturday in the car sometimes too, when nobody seems to read the blue signs and all the traffic sits in the right. I'm always wary of someone diving across the front of me though, so gently does it !

Got it up on the hydraulic bench and wheels and forks out, 2 tyres to fit and a fork seal leaking.

So whats the best option for seals? OEM or pattern much different? What bushes are worth changing while I'm in there? It only has 25k miles on the clock and I think the seal is down to me ignoring speed bumps.

Also best oil from experiences for forks?

i'd try a fork seal saver afore pulling the forks apart as ya may be able to swipe out a tiny piece of dirt.  I prefer 15 weight fork oil.

What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - dablik - 12-03-2022

I prefer oem fork seal, heard of to many issues with aftermarket, 10w fork oil for me, i is slimmerer than Ken  Smile

Started breaking the bike today, well it was already broken, just breaking it some more...
