Brother always has a bike less than 3 years old. I like my TDM I see no need to change it just for the latest fashion. I usually follow him as ImCaptain Slow. He usually insists I park a few spaces away so I dont feel embarrassed. ( I never do)
When he had a Pan Euro he was in Pan Clan, now hes in BMW GSA club. One of the Sheeple.
I paid £3100 for my TDM 16 years ago. My VFM is high I hate to think how much hes spent on bikes over the last 16years. He has a choice of one but I have a choice of three.

I'd love to be able to buy a brand new 3vd........maybe if i sell my 10 bikes i could afford to build a new one...although the total value of my bikes would only be about 5k....

I'm with you, Lee. I have 3 bikes, which cost less than the price of a new T7 and there is less chance of one of mine getting nicked.

Cheap to run and insure, if I went full GSA I would triple my insurance. At the end of the day on most decent roads 60mph is the limit. Even my Royal Enfield can do that. Eventually ð
For the money my Niner is the best deal I have had in bikes.

Been running my mk1, Chris G's old bike) a good few years now. Cost me £500 plus transporting it to my house £100. Got a slipping 3rd gear, it's a bit tatty but I love it. Takes me where I wanna go, can load it up for camping and is really inexpensive to run. Only let me down once, flat battery, which was just a connector on the reg/rec that needed cleaning. No electrical complexities, easy to service and maintain. What's not to like ?

Removed a nice big nail from the rear tyre
Pluggged it with stop & go tyre plugger kit ,
All good now

Im with Studley, purchasing and running costs have to be low so you have cash left to actually go somewhere, which is the whole point. Id rather have a choice of three different older bikes, than one mega expensive bike.

One of my longest duration hobbies is photography. In recent years a similar mindset has come about, which says why should you buy the latest and greatest camera, when the one which is a few years old is probably still good, so use your money instead to go to locations which you haven't photographed before instead of emptying the bank and taking pictures in your same local area.(with a newer camera).

In a similar vein, they also say the best camera is the one you happen to have in your hand at the time, and to me that's the same with bikes too, once you're out and riding around having fun then a brand new bike might not add a huge amount, and the money saved can go towards ferry costs and hotel stays.
