Quote:Added mirror extenders to the TDM in an attempt to reduce buffeting.  Bought the extenders off ebay, reasonable price and simple to install.

I'll give them a test later in the week.

Quote:Extenders smoothed out the airflow a little and reduced the buffeting.  I'm happy with the result although more testing will be done.

On my last ride both mirrors came loose and swung backwards. A check on the side of the road showed the threads in the mirror perch appeared slightly damaged. Several attempts to tighten the bolts were unsuccessful and the problem re-appeared after a few kilometers. I used superglue in the threads to hold the mirrors in place and get me home.   It appears to me that the leverage provided by the additional length allowed the bolt to move thereby damaging the thread.  Whilst the extenders worked to reduce buffeting I am removing them due to the fear of permanent damage to the mirror mounts.

Unfortunately the same ride broke a lot of the screws in my clavicle and I am now in recovery after removal of the original plate and replacement with two larger plates and a lot of screws so I won't be riding again until late May.

I don't wish to sound insensitive, but lucky you getting the plate and screw treatment.

When I broke mine 2 years ago I was offered a 'new treatment'. It turned out that a doctor in another hospital had hit on the idea to use 3D ultrasound as a way to detect early bone fracture repair, long before new bone growth shows up on an x-ray.

I signed up to be a helpful chap, but it wasn't until the first consultation that he said that I mustn't be operated on or else there was no point in doing the trial, and I had to let it heal naturally....so that now I have this huge lump on my right shoulder where the badly aligned ends fused together, and my right shoulder is usually lower than my left

I have to add, it was considered a success story, because he spotted early bone growth with is 3D scanner.

It re-broke a few times during healing, which wasn't much fun !

Now I think it was just a cost saving exercise !

Well it was Monday, technically, but I installed:

-stock exhausts, in place of the nice sounding but obnoxiously loud and a bit ugly, though lighter aftermarket ones,

-stock screen, instead of the taller touring screen that provided great protection from the elements, but blew too much turbulent airflow right in my face,

-new, >200CCA battery with built-in volt meter (sold for the 9er but almost couldn't fit, much swearing ensued)

-(advertised as) higher output H7 halogens in both low & high beam slots

-shim between the worn clutch lever & perch

-and set the chain slack, might have to revisit this one.

Also found out that I need to bleed the brakes with the help of this forum and lovely members.

Will do that and a wash soon, also an oil change is almost due.

All in all, should have a completely different bike that rides much nicer (already looks much better).

Looking forward to test riding it when time allows!

Did you try 'db killers' for your exhaust to quieten them down ?

I was never a fan of the sort which fit in the outlet end of the silencer because they usualu have a smaller exit pipe diameter which I felt affected performance, and then I found this type which slip down the inlet side of the silencer, they're also 'straight through' but do a really good job of rounding off the harshness some silencers give.

You just need to select the correct diameter one, and they can be found for half of this price too

Yep, thanks!

Any idea why mine could have a bit of front wheel wobble if I let go of the bars at city speeds?

Noticed that the recommended tire pressure on the front is 2,25 bars, but later models spec 2,5? Another idea is a worn head bearing, worn tire, or...?

I think the wobble has been discussed on here somewhere. I remember my 2 cents worth was the engine pulses at low speed set up a left / right "wave" through the bars. But, why do you let go of the bars? You cant drink and text at the same time...

Both my tdms have done this, new tyres sometimes helped, sometimes it was a very violent wobble, but on my last one it disappeared altogether, just a characteristic I suppose!

Could be headstock bearings need a lube and tighten...

Today I rode to my temporary employment - unfortunately the last 7 miles were on one pot. As the bike had reached operating temperature B4 one potting I figured it would be a plug off......

Determined which pot was not playing and dismantled the bike inc. radiator to get at the L plug.

Swapped out for the spare in the toolkit  and wandered 4 units up the estate to bike shoppe, where Darren very kindly gave me a 2 litre bottle of the correct ready mixed coolant and then promptly popped down to borrow the forklift for half an hour - one hand washes the other eh. Lol

Reassembled, filled up, run up and topped up. Sweet as a nut on the Supertramp way home.

Ordered 2 new plugs from Amazon for less than a fiver delivered tomoz.

In non-TDM news I got driven around in a properly sorted turbocharged 400 BHP Honda Civic today and it's my turn to drive it next  Tongue  - vtec, v quick, superb brakes  and v interesting under the bonnet.

Arrived at work disgruntled and spent the rest of the day grinning. Result :drinks:

Put a NOS front mudguard on as the old one developed cracks around the bolt holes. Further investigation revealed the metal inserts were corroding, the rust causing it to swell up tight in the hole.

New one has stainless inserts made to stop this happening again.

No the cover is from Ebay, had a problem fitting to the original foam, it seemed a bit large really, then added the extra foam which helped with the fit, that cover was harder to fit than a flat piece of material (came pre-shaped at the front) could also be my amatuer skills i spose but job done now.. patience required  Lol
