What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - steve27bha - 18-07-2020

I fitted one of the storage tubes to the LHS of the Givi Monokey rack.

[attachment=o13538]

Mine has the diagonal stays for the rear rack fitted and this prevents fitting the tube behind the frame, so the rear is hung off the cross-bar and the front from the stay.

[attachment=o13537]

The P clips are 16mm which is a smidge loose on the tubes so I used large washers under the nuts and bolts to clamp the clip arms closer and secure. This tube is the middle size 80mm ID and the inside of the tube is outside of the chainguard, and should be out of reach of a full suspension compression anyway.

The yellow labelling on the tube came off with cellulose thinners and some elbow grease.

I bought the tube from a UK supplier to avoid a long wait from China and to support UK business. Paid a few bob more but it is worth it. Both tube and P-clips ordered on eBay Wednesday pm, arrived today Sat am.

Tube £9.99 supply: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Manual-Canister-Container-Cylinder-Tool-Tube-Waterproof-Dry-Box-Boat-ATV/163292970197?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

P clips £3.30 supply: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pk-of-5-RUBBER-LINED-P-CLIPS-STAINLESS-STEEL-CHOOSE-YOUR-SIZE-Great-prices/261728616177?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&var=560599676815&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

 + stainless M6 x 16 dome bolts, nylok & acorn nuts, large washers from stock.

Oooops - have I broken it? I was about to add pix and clicked the wrong button, I think.

I've closed down, logged off and logged in again to no effect.

I can't add pix to the post above - the twirly thingie in the tab is going and the button to add a file is unesponsive. Screen content is different too.

Sorry.

NEXT DAY - all OK now; pix added above.

Woke up early on a sunny morning = 180 miles before breakfast - missed Moto3 & caught the last few laps of Moto2. Bacon sarnie & ready for MotoGP.

Hmmm, I'll deffo have a think about getting one, cheers Steve. :good:

Spent the afternoon cleaning the rear brake caliper and changing the brake fluid. The inner piston wasn't moving at all, turned out to be an airlock. Bleed screws were tight but gave way without snapping. cleaned up the pistons, copperslipped the pads and all is well. Smile

Also took the single exhaust and link pipe off, mainly to help service the caliper but also to see if I could get it to line up squarely. Looks like the can has a couple of dents in it, must have been fouling on the swingarm. Huh   Will have a go at lining it up tomato.

Dunno - I don't do beer in that quantity at home.

However, a quick test of liquid stock in the garage came up with:-

[attachment=o13542]

The three on the right fit the tube - the wine just, for both OD and length - but the two on the left are no go - too fat. Maybe you'd need the large size tube, Chris.

First use of the tube today on a 270 miler around Inveraray and Glencoe. My lunch was the juice in the flask above plus a big roll - latter fitted neatly in the tube lid.

Note for anyone planning to visit Inveraray - the Arch petrol station is shut, not temporary but 'shut' as in 'the pumps are away'. Nearest fuel is quite a way away according to Google Map of local petrol stations.

Real world field tests carry a lot of weight for me !

Thanks for the tip about Inveraray, I'm planning a visit there when I'm back from sunny (not really) Cornwall

Finally got round to getting a number plate made up, only to find that it's smaller then mounting holes on my Scott Oiler touring reservoir!  It appears European bikes have holders that standard sized plates just slot in to.  Luckily it's part of or workshop's remit to sort out number plates for staff (huge number of expats) so I have an expert on the case.  He's going to make up a plate to fit on my existing mounting holes and then fix the numberplate to the additional plate, although as he rides a GS I was a little shocked at the concept of a scott oiler that splatters oil all over the back of the numberplate Big Grin

madmopedracer said there's a petrol station on the Lochgilphead road in Inveraray.

Thanks for that - good news.

What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - gautrek - 22-07-2020

Went for a 200 mile blast around the peaks today with 10 other bikes. Had a very good ride round and even saw another TDM when we stopped at the pub. The bike is going great and didn't use any oil ( which is rather odd). Since I put a load more free play into the twistgrip I am finding the bike less snatcy and prone to lurching forward if I hit a bump while shut off. But the more I ride this bike the better I like it. My arse only got sore about 170 miles in.

I was there yesterday and must have only just left before you arrived looking at the bikes that were there.

What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - gautrek - 23-07-2020

There was a 3vd there but I never saw anyone near it

What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - bjorge - 23-07-2020

Finally got the exhaust ready for use. Found a Lee-kind of guy not far away, to do sandblasting! This guy has all the tools needed for making stuff, and builds motorbikes for a hobby👍

Sandblasting revealed yet more holes or thin metal, I believe I have now sorted ~10 of them. Emptied 1 1/2 can of exhaust paint, really hope it lasts for a while....😐

What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - drewpy - 23-07-2020

finally fixed my fuel leak at the tap (it was pouring out at the fuel station)

Went for a shakedown run and nothing broke or fell off, result

It feels like a different bike now, loads of smooth power and that oil burn smell has gone too.

New exhaust sounds great and has the necessary ec stamp so i can go touring which will be next year now.

The ferry emailed saying they are not taking passengers yet anyway so i opted for a credit with them (could have had the money)

What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - bjorge - 23-07-2020

Assembling everything, but it's obvious I have a water leak in tank cap when in rain. Tank has been lying outside for a few weeks, and I get rust spots on filler neck and inside tank. I obviously need a new tank cap 😐

What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - alanfavell - 23-07-2020

Fresh clutch cable fitted - should help save my limp wrist Lol

What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - bjorge - 23-07-2020

Bike up and running 😎. New tank cap ordered.

Tomorrow a proer test ride 👍

Re post #4341 above.

I disliked the lack of parallelism between the tube and the pannier frame, so had a fettle:-

[attachment=o13547]

I reversed the lower P clip to support from below, and made a recess for the stay in the lower bracket. Looks a lot neater, I feel.

[attachment=o13552]

For anyone else thinking of this position I have to admit I don't know how it would match a set of OE exhausts. I have a 2into1 fitted on the other side and a tube would not go above it. However the can is a different shape to OE.
