Easy way to lock a tool toob.

Screw shut, drill 5mm hole through outer cap into inner facing in towards wheel. Remove cap. Tap inner M6x1, drill out 5mm hole in cap to 6mm screw together fit security M6 button head screw 10 mm long.

Only you know it's there, so cap don't unscrew to usual passer by.. It will not be tight carry bit driver in pocket.

Cheers Gav. Simple enough job if you get the correct sized P clips, which I did't. Lol Got 15mm and ideally needed 16mm.

Not at all Lee, still using very little oil.  ChrisG did a good job refurbing the top end.

Why are replies I write on here not appearing?

Thanks for your concern, leehenty. I read your chat with 'norwegian' and was impressed by your offer of a longer gear rod. You really are a star. I will be in contact if I need to extend the present setting.

Sort of got a good telling off by my daughters and grand kids, government sent me another letter saying I could go out From 6th July but must still use social distancing but am allowed to have a support bubble, from 1st August I can go out to buy food or go to church?? and general exercise but must maintain social distancing.  So thought better make sure bike is all ok before I am allowed out on it :rotflmmfao:

Lol testing the bike, dont go to church whatever you do Graham, you'll be struck by lightening............. inside the church   Big Grin

What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - leehenty - 28-06-2020

Rode mine to Derbyshire for a run round Ashbourne area. Didn't "socially interact" with anyone.

Rained just a little bit. Took me own brew kit, stopped at village shop in Hartington for one of their homemade pies, lamb and mint.

Well I finally managed to get out on the TDM now I have repaired it after binning it the day lockdown ended. The collar bone is better but it aches a bit while riding the TDM. But I had a  quick blast on Thursday prior to going down for an MOT. It passed but he did point out the weepy fork seal ( new last year before I got the bike) and he aslo pointed out that I had a nail type object in my rear tyre. The seal seems to have sorted its self out after a few more miles.

As I was still not sure why I lost the front end causing me to crash I was in half a mind to try different tyres as they looked oldish. But the nail decided it for me. So I called into my local tyre place and booked a set of tyres to be fitted last sat. Which he duly did. While chatting to him about the bike he looked up what tyre pressures I should be running and he said it 38 psi at the back which I had put in and then looking at the front he said its 30 psi. I said that seems low for a bike and I had stuck more than that it. ( mainly because I forget to look when I rode the bike after lockdown) so I pumped the tyres up to 38 /42 as used to for the BMW . That was also after reading somewhere that modern tyres need higher pressures. Bear in mind I run my pre war Panther at 24/28 and its even smoother once they go down a bit more Smile

He then explained that trailies and Adventure bikes usually have thinner front tyres. So they tend to run the front softer so that the tyre deforms under load giving a bigger contact point. Otherwise you tend to lose the front end. Plus you don't load the front up so much due to the riding position ETC. So that would seem to be the reason for the crash as it was a low speed corner with a slight camber towards the middle of the road and the front end just went with no warning

I also noticed that the clutch seemed to be starting to feel a bit strange as the lever reached the handlebars. But I sorted that once I got back when I moved the heated grip back round Smile

I also added a lot more free play at the throttle end as what with the snatchy low revs stuff I find that I tend to launch the bike forwards if I hit a bump while shut off. So i figured  more free play will give me more control at low revs as the throttle wont be like an on /off switch. I was talking to a mate and he has the same issues with his 1200 trophy. I may look at fitting heavier springs to see If I can slow the throttle motion down a bit.

Glad to hear you're on the mend and back on the bike Gautrek. :good:

What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - Navigator1946 - 29-06-2020

Good to know you're on the mend, and thanks for the tyre comments. I notice from my TDM handbook that the recommended Yamaha tyre pressures vary with weight. 36/42 is the general figure, but lighter riders without luggage get a lower recommended figure on the TDM. Oh, to be in the lighter category!!!

What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - dablik - 29-06-2020

Well i'm on the big side and found 36 in the front felt like the front wheel was skipping down the road, finally settled at 33 on the end which was just right for me..
