This is starting to really jar me off! - tdm850rider - 04-02-2007

Just discovered something annoying....

There were lots of unread posts,
I signed out and went to 'guest' to check on something,
I signed back in..... no posts. Not even read posts.

I have no idea what has been said over the past 24 hours. [Image: ranting.gif]

Now thats really odd because I deleted this post when I found out that clicking 'view new posts' enough times would eventually bring them back.
This place is haunted.... [Image: ambusy.gif]

Probably the ghost of a chance that's deserted the newborn "Assorted Tips and Tricks"?

Aye, but a wee ember is glowin' there yet, if ye'd care tae waft it wi' yer bunnet o' knowledge, guid sir! [Image: smile.gif]

Would you lend your support to it's being a forum, so that it could be structured from the start to allow entries on separate threads? Otherwise I'm afraid things will get lost in the variety of stuff.

well a forum relates to a seperate website (in net speak) doesn't it ?? im in favour of compiling this info and putting it somewhere that won't be filled with useless replies/opinions. we could have a vote on it i suppose. Dapleb aint around at the moment though to add his humble onion.

Sorry - I agree, but was attempting Carpe-speak, in which I thought "forum" = level of "Keep It on the Blackstuff", "All about TDM", £Comedy stuff" etc. etc., which then allows ideas and discussions to be started as separate threads within that particular context (barring the usual cross-talk). So I think the new "Tips & Tricks etc." box had better start at that level - to run it as a single thread (ie one level lower) is going to end up in a muddle, no? It's nearly happened already.

Then someone needs to start thinking about what the different areas would be....

a mini forum of tips following the same KB format?
Engine?
Electrical?

I think just gathering 'hints' first may lend themselves to some sort of structure.
One thing I would suggest is spelling things correctly at least once in the post so 'search' can find stuff.
ie: 'tubes' at least one time before it becomes 'toobs' [Image: tongue.gif]

The German TDM site has an internal wiki (yes, even they have their troubles! [Image: rotflmmfao.gif] ) which might be a way to go? It allows entry and response, while keeping a longer-term structure? Theirs is wider ranging - all kinds of technical stuff, touring routes and tips etc.

Good points. I think the KB format is a start (see also my note on the wiki approach) - certain headings are almost automatic, to make a start, e.g.:

Engine
Electrics
Bodywork
Other workshop
Routine maintenance (oil etc.)
Cleaning and protection
On the road inc. touring
Miscellaneous (NB try to minimise this!)

Worth setting a time limit (say a month) to build up steam on these lines (as threads)?
