Got round to investigating the rattling around the clocks area when running over bumps, assumed something loose behind fairing, nope the bloody top yoke nut was loose! It had fork seals done for the mot just before I bought it so I guess that it got missed on re-assembly, fork tube pinch bolts were tight so it was never going to cause major grief but bloody annoying.

Can't beat a simple fix though eh. Smile

I think we need a stoves thread.

Oh, and to stay on thread. I’ve looked at my TDM this morning. It’s still there, still shiny-ish. I might get it out of the workshop today, tog-up (full winter gear for effect) and make some brmmm brmmm noises  :good: I might even start the bike!

It will be a long thread,🙄 one of my other afflictions is restoring old paraffin stoves.

I wondered how long it would take you to respond, Lee.

Quote:Put the 9er out for sale just now, found out I don't need 2 bikes (at least, not 2 bikes that similar) and the MkI has been parked for 2 years with no progression in items in fix list... force myself to get it back on the road.
...and there it was sold 👍

The buyer also has an MkI, so we had a good bike chat. Had to shave off the price a bit, as it had developed a fork leak during winter and I also realised front tyre was from 2014.

Back to fixing the old cow 😀

That was fast!

Original asking price was more than reasonable, too, considering mileage and modifications - the others for sale now must be more than a little overpriced, then?

I don't know; maybe I could have got a little more if more patient - still early in spring season. I thought it was flawless, so when a coupla minuses showed up I didn't want to spend more time fixing it. I need that energy for my MkI  Wink

But isn't it always so - the moment you sell something you wonder if it sold because asking price was too low  Lol

That's a proper fag lighter. Big Grin

What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - leehenty - 14-04-2020

Proper blowlamp, not these weedy gas things we have now.

What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - steve27bha - 14-04-2020

I can remember being about 6 years old and we had a heating system installed - back boiler type thingie. The plumber turned up with one of they things and set to doing that and other work, making what I now know to be "wiped joints" with the blowtorch roaring and blasting away - it scared the sh*t out of me!

The process fascinated me - roaring flame, molten metal, padded hand with a shiny silver result - magic!

What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - Studley Ramrod - 14-04-2020

I assume that'll be when they still used the old lead pipe to connect copper pipe to Steve.  It's quite an art working with heat and lead, once saw an old boy doing a herringbone joint on lead flashing, amazing skills.  Then it was my turn, big f**k off hole before I even got my eye in. Lol

What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - ramotdm - 14-04-2020

Funny that Steve,

when I was a similar age we had a gas man come to the house to repair/ wipe a joint on a lead gas pipe,

he used a blowlamp like that, it absolutely fascinated me, remember it like it was yesterday,

I always liked looking at flames, I also enjoyed metalwork,

so I  ended up being a plumber/gas fitter lol

I used to be a gas man in a previous life. We were taught how to do all the lead joints for both water and gas at college, but by the time I qualified lead piping was rarely used and mechanical connectors had replaced the old wiped joints. I did a few gas joints into lead, but never did a water joint in the real world. When I got my tools, from the then East Midlands Gas Board, there were moleskin cloths in there for wiping lead joints. I've probably still got them somewhere Smile .

Plumbers blowlamps, have two sort of hooks to hold the soldering irons, big lumps of copper on a stick for heating up.

Ditto that in Tech College (Riversdale) plus lead flashing for the likes of chimney flashes etc, started my working life as an Apprentice plumber.....
