What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - wicklamulla - 24-02-2020 Quote:  i have never tried this but....  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ils0KOjMdsY What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - JMC - 25-02-2020 Quote: I had an old honda magna V4 and had to ratchet strap out the carbs to clean em and the carb boot rubbers were gone so hard it was impossible to get the carbs on again so I did the above. Wintergreen oil and isopropyl mixed together and soak for a few days and it makes the rubber nice and soft and won't damage it, the rubber will go back to normal a few days after being fitted so be sure to get everything tightened up to spec asap. What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - curlylegend - 25-02-2020 Quote: Thanks for that. Interesting, but I was curious about the science behind it. There's a YouTube video from Ichiban Moto which sheds some light on this, he's annealing the rubber and then replacing the plasticizers in the rubber. This is advance rubber industry technology ! Shit, you'd never have got that out of Motorcycle Mechanics thirty years ago ! But still the question is, who, in the rubber industry, spilled the beans to the rest of the world ? What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - dablik - 25-02-2020 Seen the vid before but would be far cheaper to do the silicone mod, cant remember where i saw mention of through the airbox mod curly, modding re the linked thread works just fine.. I did it last a few weeks ago when i got a new tank for my KTM, a long range tank with fuel taps on both sides, the o-rings had flattened and hardened and both were leaking. Half an hour in simmering water with wintergreen oil and they expanded out to seal well, and still haven't leaked again. What I should have done was tried one in simmering water on it's own, in case it's more to do with the effect of heating it to soften the seal and relieve the stresses ? The kitchen smells of Dr Pepper afterwards What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - ChrisG - 26-02-2020 Ridden it! First time in ages! Currently sat on a ferry to Calais with a 3.5 hour motorway trip to Den Haag the other end. What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - Gdog - 26-02-2020 Jeez !!!  You chose a lovely day for it !!  What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - dablik - 26-02-2020 Hope you have ya winter woolies on Chris.. What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - ChrisG - 26-02-2020 Quote:Hope you have ya winter woolies on Chris..Annoyingly it appears my heated grips aren't working, hopefully just the fuse but if it has blown something would have caused it.  Other than chilly fingers not a bad trip, didn't even bother plugging in my heated jacket, although I did start to think about stopping to sort it out somewhere near Rotterdam  The run from home to Dover this morning was surprisingly warm in the sun. What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - dablik - 27-02-2020 Oh i remember, the home made heated jacket :good: What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - Norwegian - 01-03-2020 Finally got to lubing up the rear suspension. Removed the left can and foot rest bracket last weekend, been looking for a 10 mm Rawl plug over the week. Didn't find one. Mucked about in the garage today - suspended the rear end from the roof with some ratchet straps, and removed all the bolts from the lower suspension. Found a plastic expansion plug and decided to have a go. Put it in the frame bushing, drove in a large wooden screw with a small impact driver, and tapped it lightly with a rod from the right side. And waddayaknow, it slid right out. All the needle bearings appear to be working fine, but rather dry. So about time, I think. And without Carpe I wouldn't even know about it. What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - Snowbird - 01-03-2020 Actaully got round to riding it, thats twice this year now, making a bloody habit of it I recon! Still glad I got I got it and sold the fazer! :drinks: Since got very very pi55ed! dammed beer, work of the devil you know! but he's quite a good devil as devils go..... What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - leehenty - 02-03-2020 Went out to shed popped fancy charger on bike and checked how my lithium battery is doing. Quite well. Then polished a bit of the Royal Enfield. Checked tyres then the rain started.... Again.â¹ï¸ What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - dandywarhol - 02-03-2020 Li battery brings my KTM 690 weight down to 146 kg dry :pimp: Brrrrap What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - Norwegian - 02-03-2020 Lubed and assembled rear suspension, with shorter link arms to raise the rear end a bit. No problems, except I left my only garage dor opener in the garage. Ah well, a litte break and entry will sort it tomorrow. What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - steve27bha - 02-03-2020 Finished my annual service today but when checking the coolant level noticed the overflow pipe had fallen out of the rubber grommet and hidden. Since I didn't think about it carefully enough I went looking for the wrong pipe so finding the damned thing has left the side panels off and the tank raised - grrrr. However the access allowed me to dust underneath and rearrange the runs of some wiring. I'll button it all up tomorrow and run the engine to balance the injectors. What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - curlylegend - 14-03-2020 How about this for a damned scunner ?  Just finished replacing all my fuel hoses with more robust tubing and doing a complete ultrasound clean of my carbs. The carbs cleaned up well and balanced fairly well ? I'd also replaced the front fork oil and a few other bits and pieces.  So this was the first run for a few weeks.... stopped for coffee after 100km and thought I got a whiff of fuel ? A quick check over, no obvious leaks or drips so I put it down to perhaps a re-routed breather hose. Another 100km to home and filled tank to check fuel consumption.  Consumption was 4.7l for 100km, not bad for the type of riding I do. Again, in the garage, thought I detected a smell of loose fuel.... no leaks visible so left it till today to investigate.  The bloody fuel pump was leaking...not the hose connections but the pump itself. This was a super-cheap Chinese thing I got off Ebay a couple of years and 20,000km ago. I managed to lift the rear of the tank and footer my way in to loosen off the pump to gain access. It turned out that ALL of the screws were loose by nearly two full turns. Christ ! that made my blood run cold. Think how bad that could have been on a long run ? And yes, I did check and double check after refitting the carbs and fuel hoses. But I never thought once about checking the security of the fuel pump screws. So I dug out my Torx security bits and tightened the screws in.... no torque figure, just used Engineers Feel ! I've been running it on and off all afternoon and it seems to be holding fuel.  Two good things though, the bike responds to the throttle better than ever, although maybe a bit lumpy in first and second while crawling in traffic ? And secondly, I'd fitted some anti-glare film to my instruments. I got it from Speedo Angels. My 1991 TDM isn't actually listed so I got what looked like it might do with a bit of footering...Kawasaki 900 ?  Sometimes, where I am, I have to ride long straight roads with the sun being reflected off my instruments right into my eyes and it's a pain in the arse ! Now, no more reflections...sorted ! And all for about £12.  I wanted to attach a picture but apparently 58KB is too big ? What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - Studley Ramrod - 14-03-2020 Good find Curly, I once came across a Yamaha pump with loose bolts, a quick tweak and all was good.  I blame sun glare for helping me in getting my first ever speeding ticket, doing 35mph in a 30 zone. <_<  Supporting members get a 50MB allowance for pic posting.
