What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - Staffy - 23-12-2014

I got in touch with the mechanic yesterday to find out why my stator failed after six months. Turns out that they put "too much lacquer on the windings" and "it was rubbing" and failed. He's still blaming the rewind company but at the end of the day one of them will pay for repairs, not me.

Who re wound it for you?

What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - Staffy - 24-12-2014

It was organised by the repairer. It was rewound by Betta Bikes here in south Australia I believe. They have been open for 30 years or there abouts do I don't know how they stuffed it up.

Did the bike shop put it in for you?

If so I wouldn't be surprised if they chipped the lacquer as they put it in, it's easy done

My money is on the bike shop stuffing it up. They put in 4.5 litres with an oil change when they replaced the stator. We all know that is too much. I diagnosed it as the stator and not the reg/rec and told them this. They did their diagnosis and said it was the reg/rec then had to admit after they replaced this it was actually the stator. That meant they were a week behind (how that took them a week is beyond me) and had to rush through the rewind to make sure they wouldn't take too much longer as they had my metaphorical boot at the back of their head at this point having told me they could fix the issue in just over a week. It took them almost three weeks to get the bike back to me.

Needless to say I wasn't overly impressed with them last time and wouldn't go back now EXCEPT that I'm not prepared to pay for someone else's stuff up, therefore they can fix it.

Here we go, then - pitcher (not the highest quality, but the sun is particularly bright today):

As far as extending the shed, well, it's not the shed what needs extending...and much as I like the (N+1) bike ownership maths, again, well...

The DR has made it's inaugural long range trip on Xmas Day (160 kms to Timaru) and handled it well. Nest stop, a gravel road.

Bolted on all my bike brackets I've made to mount the new cam in various postions for the first ride, cleaned and polished everything, pumped up the tyres, read the camera manual again, got all excited this morning and.... it's  tipping down  , mission aborted  Confusedorry:

Changed the oil and filter and cleaned the bike. Will spray liberally with ACF before using. Didn't have time to look at the bottom bush. That's next weekends job, weather permitting.

That's the most highly modified TDM I have ever seen.....

Good score D, even got the big tank!

You got a pesky wabbit problem? Very high security on yer lettuces.

Was going to go for a fang on the TDM today and further twiddle me rebound, on 10 it's pogoing on sharp bumps.

To hot to ride, though. I'm basking in the shade until it cools off.

Big Grin

Good score D, even got the big tank! The tank was a post-purchase farkle, as has been the lowered pegs (ta, Procycle) and a Ventura rack.

You got a pesky wabbit problem? Very high security on yer lettuces. Yeah, pesky wabbits, indeed. Living the agrarian lifestyle brings a whole set of other security risks, so, seeing as there are too many neighbours for the 12-bore or sniping with me Grandad's old .22...

Yeah, I know, I know.

Yesterday, me and a couple of Kiwibikers shot through to Methven for a coffee and scone - coming back stopped off at my sister's - my BiL told me the temp had been 39.3, was currently only 34, and the pool temp was 30. Would've been rude not to take a plunge, so I did.

And have just listened to the TDM motor away in the hands of it's new owner. Sad Probably the only time I have listened to the ORP pipes in an un-filtered way. Sad Sad

I'll still check in here, and obviously, any inhabitants of the CarpeTDM-verse that find themselves in this part of the world are welcome to drop by.

Re-installed the GS handguards for cold weather riding, will probably leave them on till april. Wanted to work but my internet connection broke down. Took the old XT for a little spin then. Really nice with a new piston fresh 15 weight fork oil and the new wilbers shock.

Glückauf

Fired it up for a sec, stuck it on trickle charge for a day, no need to but feel I need to do something with it rather than just keep hoping to go for a pleasure ride on the thing, no fun in the heavily salted icey cold roads Sad

Started it up, noticed rusty bits on the chain. :hide:

Penance will be done tomorrow, with a good clean and re-grease. :punishment:

What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - drobinson - 18-01-2015

today I have been mainly re attaching the pannier mountings, they need a touch up with black paint here and there but that will wait for warmer times.

I do like the yamaha pannier system, very neat and tidy compared to aftermarket efforts.
