Quote:Yesterday's result are encouraging.  I will be fastening it all to a board today - siphoning when idle check.

If anyone is interested, costs so far in GBP:

PWM 1.86 Ebay/Banggood

Pump 5.99 Eurocarparts

Timer 2.44 Banggood

My time = free2me

Inline NR valve is around 1.50 Ebay

If I go for a solenoid valve, then it would be another 5 - 6 quid

More fiddling in the bikeshed today...........

UPDATE deffo siphons past pump. Solenoid valve from Banggood £3.53

Or...see if you can find a cheap 12V peristaltic pump. They inherently prevent flow in any direction when not turning. I use them at work but they're 24V types and a little large.

Sometimes also called dosing pumps.  no check valves needed.... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Adjustable-DC12V-Dosing-Pump-Peristaltic-Head-Aquarium-Lab-Analytical-Liquid-ZY/162623856640?_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIM.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D50546%26meid%3D1a9f88dbd75c4fc3bf98b70ec5fab99e%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D6%26rkt%3D12%26sd%3D252943036235%26itm%3D162623856640&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851

Here's the search results on ebay...you can get a suitable pump with a variable speed controllerm so lots of folk must be playing with them.... https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2047675.m570.l1313.TR12.TRC2.A0.H0.X12v+dosing+pump.TRS0&_nkw=12v+dosing+pump&_sacat=0

@JBX & Spike240 If/when finished and working as intended, all will be revealed with photos, full component listing/source & wiring diagram.

Fixitsan - those dosing pumps look good and may become part of the final system - I chose the windscreen washer pump as I guesstimated it would have enough power to pull the different grades of Scottoil from my >750ml reservoir, would be reliable/endurable and I had a tiny PWM laid idle in the tricks box to control pump speed.

you should be fine eh. Not sure if a washer pump could self prime with oil, they're often just a centrifugal pump with a large internal vane clearance, but because they're usually mounted at the lowest level of the wash bottle they water usually floods them straight away  But, priming it isn't difficult, just suck on the exit tube ...usual  health and safety precautions, always wear yer wellies Smile

Peristaltic pumps can operate with a wide range of fluid level 'head', they self prime, they prevent flow in either direction when the power is off  (self closing) and can provide accurate small volumes if required. .... if you do decide to go down that route the best tube material is 'Tygon' which is inert to most oils, acids etc etc .... other oil resistant types are available, I think silicon will also cope with oil reasonable well

We use them on printing machines which I work on, with very nasty inks, which need to be circulated around in precise amounts. Through the first 80% of their life they often dose accurately based on the length of time they run for, but after that the tube inside flattens a bit and doesn't hold the same volume as a new one. I just replace the ink tube inside when that happens, and some of the ones I saw on ebay have replacement tubes so you should get plenty of use for years. Tygon tubes are often rated for 1000hours of use before flattening out too much. The only types of failure are motor burnouts (some thick inks are difficult to pump) and splits in the tube, which happens when the last engineer was a lazy mong.... Smile

You're right Fixitsan, the washer pump won't self-prime, it's not problematic for me. The reservoir capacity is so large that refilling is infrequent, (one fill will easily do my summer hols miles). Refilling does not involve removing the scavenge end from the oil, so no need for a re-prime.

H&S - I like powdered latex gloves Rolleyes

Thats what i thought, once you're up and running you won't need to keep repriming.

I can't use powdered latex gloves because of the risk of the the powder contaminating the printheads, and a replacement printhead costs £9000 !  Got to be nitrile for me Smile

Heres three weeks in a minute or two of an installation  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ebctJVbL9XM

I'm halfway through a 2 week training course for this puppy...it prints on wood, glass, almost anything....

HP call ink 'liquid gold' . one machine i work on uses virtually identical HP ink, we provide it in 10L tubs costing £400. 10L at HP prices is something like £20000 !

But if you have no other option what can you do.

Went for a blast with mates on their sports bikes. It's surprising how well the TDM goes when asked to do so Smile

Ordered a Pilot Power 3 (rear) for when I return from the Netherlands. The Pilot Road 3 has been really great and I was going to get another to work with the front (which isn't worn much when compared to the rear)....but I just thought I'ld try something different Smile

Both Wheels off today ready for a new set of BT023's tomorrow, Front mudguard bolts seized in as I expected them to be (glad to say there finally out ).. all brakes stripped cleaned and lubricated where needed and the swing arm cleaned while I can get to it.. :good:

What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - drewpy - 30-05-2018

started her up today, then got a load of brown fuel pumping out all over the place aaghhh!

turns out the engine filled up with Bp's finest whilst the wheel was being done.

Luckily no damage done.

then the bolt to the carb top sheared off - drilled and helicoiled that

then the throttle cable seized in the carb- had to cut that off and order replacement

then the intake manifolds were breaking down - ordered a new set

just cost me £102 and 1 gall of fuel
