@smid the airbox mod is on here to if you search, it's the removal of the flapper and open up the airbox for better flow.

Beautiful day, took bike out to visit my cousin who is in a convalescence hosp. On the way home stopped in local shopping centre. Coming out I forgot to remove lock, which snapped off valve in front wheel. Massive blast of air. Dead front wheel with less than 100 miles on tyre.

Only 3/4 mile to home so I think, no problem I can push it,,, uphill.  Forgot I had hurt my shoulder 2 weeks ago.

Gave up 300 yards later, soaked with sweat, red-faced, coughing up chunks.

Called motorcycle recovery guy, who picked me up 40 mins later.  Knackered.

I took my 2002 900 to my mechanic to get him to do an oil and filter change.

Whilst there I casually said,  "You know,  I don't think this bike handles the twisties as good as my Versys."

He said,  "Why?  Do you feel it doesn't turn in easily enough?"

I said,  "Yes."

He said,  "We can fix that."

So a short time later,  the front has been lowered 12mm,  go out for a test ride,  it's a totally different bike,  amazing.

This weekend I've barricaded it in the garage behind the new bathroom that's getting fitted over the next couple of weeks, so it'll be staying in the garage for a while.

It was a productive day for me and the TDM.  In addition to adapting some MkII Givi racks to work on my MkI, I solved a problem I've had since I switched the dash indicators to LEDs.  Because of the way the Mk1 is wired, the polarity of the voltage at the dash light changes depending whether you have the right or left signal on.  An incandescent bulb doesn't care, but my LEDs do.  My indicator switch is a bit sticky and has a problem cancelling my left blinker.  This is an issue when you don't have a warning light on the dash and you have been riding with your left blinker on for 10 miles!  Since the Mk1 has spots for four warning lights, but only three are used. . .

Right blinker on:

You can take the left swithgear completely apart, hit it with contact cleaner & acf50 or wd40, and it'll be as new. Mine wouldn't cancel either and inside got so dirty the headlights would cut out. Easy job to do.

Achieved the same by fitting multi position dogbones to the rear and lifting it 25mm. Recommended if you like attacking corners with enthusiasm Big Grin No detrimental effects to handling on or off road. Hyperpro springs tightened things up a bit too.

Fitted new Metalgear rear disc and pads. New stainless disc bolts from Pro-bolt (they have lots of TDM fittings, mostly anodised bling but worth a look). Will head out this week to take the shine off the new rear PR4 and bed in the brakes.

Took the exhaust off a spares and repairs motor bike I had off ebay, what a tough job, all the bolts were rusty and the Allen keys just span round, had to weld a bold to the old nut just to remove them. Getting the flanges off was even harder haha, had to use lots of heat and careful tapping with a hammer but I managed it phew, does anyone know the size of the nuts needed to put the exhaust back on, I have no idea where to start, I need all four. Also, would it be a good idea to replace the studs too. Hope I placed this in the right thread, cheers :-)

Rode it to Brighton for Brightona event (to help mate on stall: West Sussex Motorcycle Hire). 1000s of bikes here but have not managed to find another TDM yet. (Anybody else here? Pop by and say 'Hi').

When I swapped my bars a few weeks back I had the switch apart and gave it a cleaning with contact cleaner.  It helped, but is still sticky.  Maybe I need to go at it again.

ISTR they are M8. I replaced them with regular stainless nuts as the old ones couldn't be used with the new stainless downpipes. Thought of cutting studs and mount cap nuts, but now I like the looks of it as is.

BTW, a question like this would have a better chance of being spotted when not placed in this diary-like topic.

Hi, yeah I didn't think it was the right place for the question but I didn't know where to put it. I have found my answer now though thanks to all the helpful replies I have had. Thank you again. I have some nuts on the way in the post. Can't wait to get it on the road :-)

Fitted Henty Scotoiler delivery dooberry after seeing one made for Dablik.

A LOT tidier and a lot easier to position the nib.
