850 Destruction - dablik - 07-07-2019 Silverspots i'll av u no...... yes i have a 14mm front mc to go on with them, like you i find with the regular 5/18 mc me thinks (16mm) the brakes are diabolical, very wooden, i'll also be putting new lines onnit, if their anything like me last mk1 or the 9r i'll be well chuffed..  Ps my mc is from an FJR1300 gives a bit more choice.. 850 Destruction - dablik - 07-07-2019 Today oi was gasketeering a little bit  1st tried marking the oil cover with some Lipstick wot Studley sent me and that were'nt very good, used Moly instead and made a reasonable impression to cut out, got the others to do when cases are back. I'm very tempted but must get more used to the bike first before spending dosh on something I might just get used to. 850 Destruction - Studley Ramrod - 07-07-2019 Silverspots are the latest Yamaha calipers SB, they use them on the 9'er.  Nice job on the gasket Dabbers. :good: 850 Destruction - drewpy - 07-07-2019 I changed mine to a 900 mc and it immediately felt great. Go for it. 850 Destruction - dablik - 07-07-2019 Quote:I changed mine to a 900 mc and it immediately felt great. Same thing drewpy, but i believe after 2003/04 they changed the mc size again.. 850 Destruction - dablik - 12-07-2019 Collected this morning from F&J Skelmersdale  These babies came out lovely, very smooth finish on them, interestingly Yams alloy is a different colour to Kwaks which is shittier ![]() [attachment=o12202] [attachment=o12203]  Hopefully off to the Engineers on Monday with the crankshaft, head and barrels, need to also measure the oil clearances over the weekend, pretty sure the numbers off the web match the previous crankshaft , need to look at photo's.  Edit... just to add for info, F&J who bead blasted the cases also pre hot tank to remove oil and grease then chem dip to remove paint, included in the price before blasting, my research shows most other places (at least near to me) require you to first degrease and remove paint before they will touch them, so an awful lot of labour saved for me. 850 Destruction - dablik - 12-07-2019 Delivery from Fowlers, waiting on the backorder for the rest. [attachment=o12204] 850 Destruction - dapleb - 12-07-2019 A whole lot of lick going on dabbers. 850 Destruction - dablik - 12-07-2019 Aye sure is, may as well do it proper eh, i eggspect i'll replace the bearing shells an all, prolly/maybe......ouch ouch ouch... 850 Destruction - Studley Ramrod - 12-07-2019 Proper fettlin' porn eh.  They've done a grand job cleaning the parts. :good:850 Destruction - dablik - 12-07-2019 Have to decide iffin i'm gonna paint em...cant make me mind up, alternator cover is pitted quite a bit where they lose all the paint on em, hmmm. 850 Destruction - wicklamulla - 12-07-2019 Quote:Have to decide iffin i'm gonna paint em...cant make me mind up, alternator cover is pitted quite a bit where they lose all the paint on em, hmmm.surely ya hafta apply sumtin to them as it's bare aluminium now innit? 850 Destruction - dablik - 13-07-2019 Quote:surely ya hafta apply sumtin to them as it's bare aluminium now innit? My thought's an all Ken, think i'll wax em up to give some protection from the elements. 850 Destruction - wicklamulla - 13-07-2019 Quote:Âsounds good but the heat near the downpoipes will soon melt the wax. can ya powder coat aluminium or is it only pissible to etch prime and then spray paint a top coat?  Dapleb yew etch primed yer frock legs years ago and was wondering how the finish held up? This is all a learning curve fer me hence all the questions. 850 Destruction - dapleb - 13-07-2019 Forks held up great...cous they were built in 2012 for when my old set gave up.... Which they haven't yet despite the rust bubbles, so not yet fitted. 850 Destruction - dablik - 13-07-2019 The wax is bonded with very fine metal dust and when rubbed in and buffed it gets into the pores and will harden off after awhile, the downpipes may present issues to some degree as they get roasting on our bikes but i'm not overly concerened, a lot of clear coats dont seem to hold up either as they can yellow, the internet is full of shoite seems to me, nobody can agree on fook all.. so only one way to find out i guess ! quite a number of chaps on Ad rider have used the rubnbuff method with it holding up reasonably well it seems. Alubright is another product but apparently it stays sticky..  If me engine looks okay for the 1st year i'll be happy but getting a natural patina onnit prolly wont bother me to much, it's not gonna be nannied and lives outside so we'll see, if it ends up looking really shoite after a year or 2 i'll pull the motor..  You could prolly get away with powdercoating the side cases but i would'n do the engine on our bike, painting Ken, well your choice really, PJ1 (Black only) requires no primer and will spray directly onto clean Aluminium, Simoniz also has some not requiring primer either, i think some people would worry with our bikes about putting to much paint on the engine as it runs hot but suppose you could fit a switch for the fan eh. Best option i've come across is epoxy primer ( the new etch !!) before paint, i'm not convinced a High Heat paint is required, prolly more down to the prep ya ask me, and what older cast iron engines got painted with may be not so good for Aluminium, it's a minefield all geared at making us spend moola. 850 Destruction - dablik - 13-07-2019 So today i had a squish, not once but twice as the crankshaft got a nudge the 1st time while flippin the top case, how i dunno got caught on summit, anyhoo  Oil Clearance Main journals 0.020 to 0.038  [attachment=o12205] [attachment=o12206] [attachment=o12207] [attachment=o12208]  Given time tomorrow i'll meaure the Big ends and prolly the camshafts while i'm at it...  Edit.... was thinkin it prolly wouldn't have made much difference if i had placed the plastiguage off the centre line somewhat and avoided the holes in the shells, Haynes seems to think it's important to be centre :dunno: 850 Destruction - dablik - 18-07-2019 Collected me bits from the powder coaters today.  A wee taster to tittilate ![]() [attachment=o12221] 850 Destruction - dapleb - 18-07-2019 I'm running out of lick spittle. |
