You could always buy her a new one and pop that one in the garage  :pimp:

What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - fixitsan - 06-10-2016

This one is her new one which I selfishly made sure was good for powdercoat !

It'll have to do because I don't have a strong enough supply in the garage

Not today but this week so close enough...

- Took it for its MOT, breathed a sigh of relief when the call came "passed, no advisories except exhaust is a bit loud" Yeah, it's supposed to be mate. The Xenon headlight is "a bit bright" for similar reason...

-Finally got the scottoiler fitted. A surprisingly easy job on the 4TX, very satisfying.

-Oh, and rode it to work lots.

Any chance you would throw up a quick "How To" about powder coating at home or at least how you go about it, ie: the gear you bought to do it etc and how you think it compares to getting it done by a pro  :good:

I bought a secondhand one of these for £35 plus postage

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-Craftsman-Electric-Powder-Coat-Spray-Gun-Metal-Finisher-17288-car-boat-paint-/360964799766

They used to sell for about £260 !

The one in that link comes with a US supply (120Vac)...you will need to find a 24Vdc 1A supply, and then splice the custom plug onto it.

UK versions appear on ebay sometimes

Here's a guy demonstrating his  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dki69bjC2fE

Here's a guy doing chrome powder using the same gun https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1uUfOJfCMjw

It's my first entry into this stuff....I bought 0.5kg of semi gloss black powder for £8 on ebay and I've been experimenting.

I've just come up with a hillbilly method.....holding the work piece in pliars I heat it with a hot air gun........then powdercoat the hot piece and apply more hot air from the hot air gun to flatten the powder

It's very easy to get an acceptable finish, but just like when using  paint, preparation is everything......a nice smooth surface before application gives a nice smooth finish afterwards....I find a rotary wire brush in a drill is a good surface scrubber. You can apply several coats of powder, just as long as you have a bit of clean metal to attach the earth clip to.

Oven temps are typically 180C-200C, for upto 20 mins for a cold piece

84,000 mile service. Wash, oil & filter change, air filter change. Replaced the corroded generator cover with a decent 2nd hand one - a fiddlier job than I thought it would be. Tomorrow spark plug replacement and put the body panels back on. followed by a test ride :good: .

Next week, grease linkage, replace rear shock and rear tyre with much fresher items I bought from ProudViking in the Summer. The week after that, change the fork oil and ACF50 the old girl ready for winter.

Took the 900 out for a spin ........clutch cable needs looking at

What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - fixitsan - 08-10-2016

Rode the 900 for a couple of fun hours. Pulled the swingarm out of the mk2 and  debated whether to refurb it or replace it....it's pretty ropey....refurb for now i think

Sorted out the squeaky front brake lever then went for a pootle to Forest Corner Snacks.  Lovely day for a bike ride. Smile

What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - drewpy - 09-10-2016

changed the oil and filter and went for a little ride on the TDm since bringing it back from Hull.

gear changing is , err, different to say the least. Just need to take my time over it (I'm used to my '86 FZ600)

Treated them to some garage roof insulation...... in the belief i will be working in the garage over winter.

Last year i ran a 2kW fan heater for 30mins before starting work and the effect was small. This morning i ran the heater at 900W for 10 mins and the effect is noticeable (4 celsius ambient starting temp)

Best £2 spent in a while.

Made a new mounting for my camera - painted it , fitted it to the bike and decided I didn't like the look of it.

I know the feeling!  I am almost done insulating my garage.  I had done the walls a few years ago, but the ceiling was uninsulated.  I decided to use the attic portion of my garage for storage and figured as long as I was putting plywood down in the attic, I might as well throw some insulation down.  Not a fun job!  But it should retain heat a whole lot better.  Unfortunately, the rafters in my garage are just 2x4s, so I could only put in R19 insulation.  This also meant I had to use wall insulation and cut it to fit.  But R19 should be a lot better than nothing.
