What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - jbx - 23-09-2016 Problem with in-site pics is that they don't show up until you log-in.  I prefer to put pics on a separate web space and link to carpe, so they always show up (and there is 10Gb space). What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - peter-may - 24-09-2016 Quote:Tested my new LED aux lamps and new Givi 22 litres panniers (thanks Mort), on an overnight, 287 miles, trip to Farnborough. Adjusted the lamps this afternoon as they were set too low. Odometer spun past 25000 miles on the way down - so I have done around 15000 trouble-free miles in the last 14 months and now need to order a cam-cover gasket for a valve check.Did my valve check earlier in the year and successfully re-used the cam cover gasket. It needed a bit of a clean, but for 24k mls was in good "springy" nick. I know it's a lot of work to change if you re use then find a leak but hey.........probably renew next valve check in 2028 when it'll be obsolete and patterns cost ££££££££ !! What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - alanfavell - 24-09-2016 Aye Capn, ta for the thought but, I'm too short in the temper for leaks and re-do. What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - zardoz - 27-09-2016 Went to dentist, came out still a little buzzed. Got on bike and started engine. Stopped to look at 2 most gorgeous schoolgirls walk by. Like models they were. Went to go home,,CRUNCH. Guess who forgot to remove lock from front wheel. Broken indicator and badly scraped sticker on side plastic. 2 really nice guys cme over to help me pick up bike, grabbed steels and not the top box. They had also stopped to watch goddesses walk by. Guy nearest me says something like "we were watching too", "Joe here was watching so well he walked into a parking meter" What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - bjorge - 28-09-2016 Quote:Guess who forgot to remove lock from front wheel.Did that too....told myself never never use a disk lock without one of these ever :istupid: What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - nhstedium - 28-09-2016 Stopped beside a guy on one of those uber expesive lecky BMW scootrs, no spaces at work left all full of scoots and CB500s he bemoans the lack of planning and asks when will planners get with modern times and the requirements of the modern comuter - felt a bit neolithic him with his zero emision brand new polar bear friendly BMW me on my 25 year old carbed folsil fuel burning dinosaur. Almost same story did happen to me some time ago, two guys on the bike, bumped the car in front - the driver was also watching the girls... fortunately small speed, no issue. Both girls laughed loud ! What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - zardoz - 28-09-2016 I am sore all over. I'd forgotten just how painful it can be when you land on a kerb.  Maybe time to up grade armour. Something from this century perhaps? What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - Swarf - 29-09-2016 Stripped off my sump to remove the snapped bash plate bolt that I found on the strip down.....I love my job sometimes!! ð What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - Catteeclan - 29-09-2016 Good job. :clapping: What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - ProudViking - 03-10-2016 Well this was yesterday but... Mr Henty was his usual genius self as we fitted Arthurbikemad's gaitors. Then fitted nice new extra-long HEL brake lines, Then the Renthal 789 streetfighter bars. The bike is so nearly finished! Just got to sort out the mirror bracket on the new master cylinder as its a right-hand thread. When that goes on she's done!!!   Shall pop pics on soon. The air temperature has dropped here and the extra power was very noticeable.  Still think the mk2 is for me, despite being slower, although I've just got to grips with tight right handers again on the 900....   ....got a hankering for a classic Brit now aswell ....mid life crisis is still going strong here What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - Latestarter - 03-10-2016 Quote:Well this was yesterday but... Looking forward to seeing those pictures ð What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - alanfavell - 04-10-2016 Tested the Airhawk n Sheepskin anti-numbbum on a 300 miler and my verdict is the sheepskin is a worthwhile improvement as it seems to have negated the left-leg-blood-circulation stopping powers of the airhawk (never happened with the gel pad tho - odd), my bum wasn't numb at 200 miles fuel top-up at Northampton Services.  I'll post up when I do a big day run with further info on that seat combo. What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - fixitsan - 04-10-2016 Prepped the mk2 ready for head removal/exchange.  Think I'll pop in some piston rings and valve stem oil seals too while I'm at it.  [attachment=o8945]     Fork seals after that.... What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - fixitsan - 05-10-2016 Removed the head from the mk2 and discovered the cause of the clattering noise....  Not sure if it happened because the oil delivery hole was too small, or if the bearing face had been bashed so much that the alloy flashed over around the hole......I suspect it's the former....  [attachment=o8953] What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - sidarta - 06-10-2016 Quote:Removed the head from the mk2 and discovered the cause of the clattering noise.... Hi fixitsan!  The same happened to me. After hydraulic lock (no faults in valves), I found that buoys the carburetors were getting fuel filled. Bought new buoys (Yamaha), changed oil and oil filter. I started the engine and heard most noise than usual, as if the chain of command. I drove about 20 km away and came to + - 168km / h. I opened the head and see (dejavu)  http://s1067.photobucket.com/user/sidtoyo/media/cabeccedilote%20-%20head_zpsp0shpcam.jpg.html?sort=4&o=61  Lubrication holes are the same for all the support of the camshafts. In my case, lack of lubrication caused wear. The waste generated by wear due to friction, a little closed some holes. It seems that is equal to your problem, lack of lubrication. My bike was new oil and level. I messed up and rode the inverted oil filter. As? So far I'm trying to figure out how I do it.  My case, I already know because it lacked lubrication (inverted oil filter). And in your case, because there was a lack of lubrication?  Cheers! What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - fixitsan - 06-10-2016 Very helpful Sidarta, thanks. It is very interesting that the worst affected oil hole is the same in both cases.  I will check the oil filter, and i will always remember to close the fuel tap !  The mechanic who used to do my annual vehicle inspection, used to work for Yamaha, and before buying my first TDM I asked him about typical problems. The only thing he could tell me was that when the top end of the engine is noisy walk away from the sale !   The pistons are not oily, but quite sooty (indicating good piston rings), the engine ran well (apart from one leaky carb rubber)...the only oil in the combustion chamber seems to be around the inlet valves, indicating worn valve stem oil seals. The cylinder head I am going to fit is in good condition, all valves are dry, but I have already ordered the valve stem seals and it is a false economy to not fit them anyway so I'll know the top end is good  Apart from the problems above, I've found a few corroded connectors which have received a suitable treatment, no big deal. And there seems to be (or have been in the past) a small water leak around the water pump to cylinder interface....easy to fix.  The straight through exhaust sounds glorious to me, but as Paul (who sold the bike to me ) said "They're embarrassingly loud". I think that because the police out this way are clamping down on loud boy racers I may become a target of their attention.....so I've purchased some perforated stainless tubing which should push fit inside the end pipe and turn the volume down a bit !  I feel like I want to put it together and ride it as an ongoing project, and sell my 900 soon. |
