What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - fixitsan - 06-09-2016

Picked up the 4TX from Pabroom's today...I now have a '91 mk1,  '99 4tx and '04 9er !

mk1 will be going soon, the 900 will be my go to bike until the 4TX is sorted, I prefer the mk1/4tx geometry to the 9er, perhaps if i did a lot of motorway miles I might prefer the 900.

Anyway I've got a winter project for sure !

Hi Fixitsan!

I also noticed it.

It seems that the rings and pistons are within the limit.

Today took the head, (2 camshafts, and covers the axes) for a professional reconditioning engines.

He said that appears to be in good condition.

He asked me to return on Thursday to see the diagnosis.

Let's wait for the return.

Cheers!

Rode my 900 with my daughter on a hired 125......down into the Scottish Borders and back....

Almost 100 miles, the YBR125 sipped it's way through £3 worth of fuel, while the TDm didn't do too badly either considering the lower average speeds

Fitted my switched, without extra switches, aux lamps (not DRLs), only to have 2 LEDs fail once I had everything buttoned up  - grrrrr - took em back off and isolated the wiring - making sounds of escaping pressurised steam due to boiling P.

PS - I used the audible warning button as a cancel for aux dip.

Sounds like everone's having fun in the sun today, Smile   'cept Favs. Sad

Got my noo rear tyre fitted and also fitted the scottoiler, which is actually working. Big Grin  Might go for an evening blast to scub the tyre in and see if my headlamps are any good, not used them in darkness yet. Huh

Hi fixitsan!

Beautiful walk record. The 900 is very beautiful.

We also have the YBR 125, manufactured in Brazil.

Cheers!

Lovely pic! Tell your daughter about the Facebook group Motorbike Women and also the all lady club, Curvy Riders MCC. They're a great bunch with lots of members in Scotland.

Quote:put my standard cans back on and did the airbox mod again(reversed it for its first service)
Did you find the airbox mod worked. It made mine virtually unrideable, jerky and very rough when starting. Its a 2007 ABS model

What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - frits44 - 10-09-2016

richierex,

If you do the airbox mod like JBX, then nothing can go wrong.

After you did the JBX mod on your airbox, you can modify the cover of your airbox

like I did and many other people.

All bikes run better with the modified airbox on the TDM 900

Until now I fixed 18 bikes and all of them run much better and smoother

New and better air filter, and modified airbox cover.

Greetings, Frits from holland

Best mod you can do on a 900, done my 2003 and a completely different bike. I done the air box pipe, pulled it off from the air flap & put a self tap screw in it

Well it didnt work on mine. 2007  ABS  like i said. difficult to start and very jerky, pop bang, put it back and it purrs. I think the later bikes are not as bad as the early ones, i certainly wouldnt recommend it.  And for those who think i am incompetant, I removed the wire from the ECU as described on here and put it back as a reverse of the procedure, not really rocket science, the hardest part was removing the side panel

@richierex sorry it never worked for your motor, there's a rake of technical support on this forum and I'm just posting up on what I've done and what I've read done by others regardless of the year of bike involved.

Not sure on your comment about incompatance, as I'd be shocked if anyone would think that on this forum from my experience.

We're a friendly bunch on here... We even talk to the odd GS rider now & again 😜

Ride safe my friend..

I will bring mine to you because it certainly did not work by just removing the wire from the ECU, but I am not sure what I would achieve!

What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - frits44 - 10-09-2016

richierex,

I did the mod 3 on my bike plus mod. air box cover, plus Co setting higher from 14 to 54 on both cylinders

My bike runs very smooth and strong in very low rpm ( from 1200 rpm to the red sone)

No jerkynis or on of effect in low rpm.

I also removed my katyllic converters from my stock exhaust.

You can do it yourself, use the info from this site and from the JBX site.

http://www.jbx9.16mb.com/index.php?page=AIR

Mod number 3 remove it al and modify the airbox cover, also remove 10cm foam on each site to get more air.

Use the info on this forum and you will be oke with your bike.

Put your Co settings around 25 or 30 on both cylinders with stock exhaust, with open exhaust go higher in your Co settings

You have the same ECU like I do, new model from 2007 to 2012.

Succes with your mods.

Spent the weekend bike tinkering.

Installed the spot lamps on the redhead. Quite easy after picking brains (bigmatt/g650xtdm).Thank gentleman. They work beautifully.

And had a new skin mounted for the Vstrom. Shinko 805. Mmm,meaty.
