Took the engine out of the mk1 and began the underside stripdown, to replace the gearbox output shaft as Mr Dufus Bodger welded on the front sprocket....not that I'm bitter or annoyed at all .... !!

Tried a set of mk2 gears in my mk1.....seems to be a good fit , and nice to see splines on the output shaft

Along the way I came to removing the clutch hub nut, after knocking back the locking tab the nut span off freely with finger pressure only ! Â

I need to get a full gasket set in now because I didn't expect to have to remove the cylinder head and barrels.
Â
I'll check the valve clearances and probably regrind the valves in position but I haven't found any nasty gremlins.....there's a tiny amount of play on the big ends, but i think when the oil is pumping that's not a problem, but maybe I should invest in some big end shells anyway....hmmmm..... Camchain was new not too long ago and the tensioner is the later type and fully functional so that's a good bit of news !

Morning everyone,yesterday took the front wheel to the tyre/tire shop for the new skin. Lowe and behold they had the PR3 of proper size on the shelf.ð Yeah. Had it mounted and ready to go in less than a half hour.
Sweet,ð ,what a beautiful hunk of rubber. $184 out the door. Needed no weights, balanced spot on. Double sweet.
For state side members near vegas, check out MTC(motorcycle tire center). Melvin and his crew do a bang-up job. Thanks Melvin. ðð Vacation/holiday is over, back to work. ðð Have a great day everyone. Pd Gabe. ð

Question is, which size do i get....they're listed in four colour ranges....,blue, black,green and brown ?

The instruction is to subtract the value stamped on the crank web ( =1 for both cylinders) from the single number stamped on the conrod.........the large digit 5 is the significant value....which produces '4'....which relates to a 'green' bearing shell

There was no noise, but on closer inspection, and considering the fact that the oil strainer had been blocked up too, who knows how much longer it could go on !

I've just ordered a new fine toothed comb.

While I'm waiting for the shells and gaskets to arrive I'll probably then turn my attention to the bike's frame, which is brush painted, badly. I want to be riding the bike again soon , so a full resto is off the cards this year, but i might look at some quirky vinyl wrap on the frame for now. At least I'll know the engine is sound !
