My last tour on my TDM..... - jandreas - 09-11-2006 .....at least for this year! The winter is crawlig closer and closer to my part of the contry and the first snow-flings has fallen.... Yesterday, in very nice weather with temp. around 12 degr. C I took the opportunity to take it to a Yamaha shop for winter storage and maintenance. There is now near to 120 000 km (74560 miles) on the meter so it's time to get valves adjusted, (for the third time) get the carbs calibrated, new brakefluid, new cooling-liquid and so on. It has been a very good biking-season here last summer with mostly nice weather and good temperatures even long into the autumn an I added more than 10 000 km (6215 miles) to the meter. So, now's the time to pick up the snow-showel, thick winter-clothes and try to endure the winter with dreams of a new summer-biker-season to come...... Jandreas. My last tour on my TDM..... - dapleb - 09-11-2006 You will be out again next season though hey jandreas? Do you want me to bring you some soup round? So what sort of temperatures are we talking about for your winter Jandreas? Cold? Very cold? kin cold? My last tour on my TDM..... - cupasoop - 09-11-2006 I poped over to Oslo a couple of years ago in january (amazing where you will go for a 1p ryan air flight). Got down to about -10 one day but the air is a lot dryer than it is here so it didnt feel as cold as you would have imagined it would. My last tour on my TDM..... - jandreas - 09-11-2006 Hi dapleb! There are at least some truth in your imagine, I have a chair I can rock, I spend much time indoors and I do have a blanket, but soup? No! Well, my wife pours up some beer for me....sometimes! and hi Nanook! Cold or not cold, the average temperatures here where I live comes down to -10 -15 C. but can drop down to -25. Many years ago, doing my military service in northern Norway we where ordered out for a manouver for a week using tents for shelter, the temp. dropped down to -40 C. I promise you, that was really cold!! I have'nt found a converter that manage to translate -40C to ?? Farenheit Jandreas. Up here, approx. 60 km. north of Oslo and a little more than 400 meters above sea level it's not worth risking even a short two wheel trip these days since the roads are icy... The temp during the day isn't too bad, but the roads are slippery due to the ice, especially in some curves... I don't want to risk anything, not to myself and not to her (my dear TDM...), so she's parked for the winter... But you have to be careful when it's, let's say -25C , it's easy to "freeze off" your nose-tip, ears or chin because it dont feel so cold! Jandreas My last tour on my TDM..... - Big Bird - 09-11-2006 Of course Jandreas will be out on his Mk II next summer. Both he and his TDM are unstoppable. I cannot imagine temperatures like you're describing. For me, anything less than 5 deg C and you'll find me rugged up indoors with the fire blazing. I have never lived anywhere where it actually snows ... well, it does snow 2 or 3 days of the year in the mountains 100km west of where I live. Give me clear cloudless days and the hot Aussie sun please. My last tour on my TDM..... - sparra99 - 10-11-2006 Cheers Big Bird, I agree, its a lovely day here in downtown Parramatta.........suppossed to be 28C today. Lovely ride to work this morning. QUOTE(Big Bird @ Fri 10th Nov 2006, 07:35 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Of course Jandreas will be out on his Mk II next summer. Relaxing admiring the TDM on my BLOODY crutches ...[snip]... Fancy that. Me too as it happens. I get my cast cut off on Monday and then I am taxing my TDM and putting it back on the road where it belongs. No ice here in York yet. Just lots of tea and incomprehensible accents My last tour on my TDM..... - Guest - 10-11-2006 We've had a couple of decimeters of snow already, but it's all gone now (Uppsala, Sweden). We have about +5C during the days, but it is sub-zero at night and the road surface temperature is sub-zero most of the days, so the roads are way too slippery for any kind of two wheel riding. I guess that I'll wait until late February, early March before the noble steed will be on the road again. Any ideas of alternative occupation during the dark months, beside a long vacation to the southern hemisphere? /Nils My last tour on my TDM..... - Nig - 10-11-2006 Do you Aussie lads no what your doing to us to Northern folk with all your talk of 28 degrees and such It was 2 degrees C this morning when i went to work on the 900 - lucky i am fully Gericked up with clobber, and heated grips on full blast. But hats off to Nils and co. thats some serious freeze man !! My last tour on my TDM..... - masterbrewer - 11-11-2006 My last tour on my TDM..... - Cpeders - 10-12-2006 This one looks like winter fun for Nils
But it seems like the season is done for me now. it was kind of chill riding yesterday. Somewhere between 2 and 5 degrees C when riding home in the afternooooon. Also it`s not great fun riding behind a truck pouring salt on the roads. But after all. it`s my first season as a rider, so i don`t think i should complain. So this leaves me too the sad part of puting the bike in the garage. And give her som comfort until spring. |
