For Those Of A Certain Age ! - Gdog - 26-11-2019 Greetings Carpe dudes :good: Long story but with a warning to those of a certain age, Sitting comfortably ? Then I'll begin ....... Normal day at work Friday 17th (week or so ago) I decided to do a stock check on some OEM parts we have in stock for one of our film wrappers so the engineers can do a rebuild over the Xmas shut down as its not been touched for years. The parts bins were covered in years of dust and grime (parts in sealed backs so not a big issue) as they don't get used often (well engineered bit of kit), I had to change my Nitrile gloves a couple of time, they were filthy ! didn't think to put a dust mask on though !! Think you know where this is going, you'll be wrong !  Saturday morning I was coughing and sneezing a bit but went to work anyway, I was at a drop off in London (Terry Two Jobs, help my haulier mate out now and again!) and had to move four big pallets in the back of my lorry to get to the ones they wanted no big issue normally but it was hard work and made me puff a bit I wont lie, got the job done and sat in my cab for a bit to get my breath back as it proper took the wind out of my sails ! I thought "what the hell did I bloody breathe in yesterday from those parts bins?" still soldiered on did one more drop in London then headed home feeling real rough now, got back about four and sat in the kitchen with the missus had a cuppa (+ cake) told her I felt unwell and my thoughts regarding the manky stock bins, went to bed for a lay down , even took a Lemsip (to combat the flu !) and didn't move the rest of the weekend (only raising to watch the Moto3 race from Valencia). Dragged my sorry ass out of bed Monday morning to go to work now finding it a faff to get dressed and walk to the car, thinking I've picked summat up and got a blimmin chest infection, got to about 10ish and said I'm off home and to get to the doctors for some antibiotics to clear this up. Went to the quack at 5 and was prescribed muscle relaxants as she thought I had pulled something in my back moving those pallets in the back of my lorry, not convinced but hey I'm not a GP ! By 23:00 I was in so much pain, finding it hard to even breathe, burning feeling in my back & chest, arms & legs like lead and felt so ill (real bad flu) I rang 111 and they sent an ambulance team out to check me over as a precaution (bit of over kill I thought, only need some antibiotics !) , they asked me to tell them what had been going on so told them the whole story, one of them said Gavin were just going to hook you up to run an ECG to see if that will tell us anything, (you there yet ?) after the third check they were on the phone to Lincoln CCU as it would appear I'd had several heart attacks !!! Blues & two's to Lincoln, the cardiac team were waiting for me when I got there, the head honcho got in the back of the ambulance and said "ahh you must be the chap who should have been here Saturday afternoon, only three days late!!" :punishment:, that's right when I had to take that "breather" in my cab Saturday morning I was having a heart attack, the dust / manky bins issue was a complete red herring, total coincidence !!  They kept me in all week, had loads of tests a coronary angiogram which revealed one of the coronary arteries is kaput but the other three arteries are fine, phew !! They couldn't "fix" me with a stent (too far gone) so being "medically managed" which is fine just a bit longer to get back to being fighting fit.  So a bit of advise guys n gals, if you feel unwell and having chest pains (however small) seek advise, better to be safe than sorry.  Lecture over, stay safe Carpe dudes :good: For Those Of A Certain Age ! - Studley Ramrod - 26-11-2019 Wow ! Glad you're ok mate. :giveusahug: I was thinking angina as the symtoms resembled my Ma's when she had an angina attack.  Thinking back, you have been really pushing yerself in the last year or so, what with two jobs and buying the villa and doing it up. Time to take it easy and enjoy life in the slow lane a bit Gav.  Oh, and change yer doctor. For Those Of A Certain Age ! - Rallyist - 26-11-2019 Lots of heart attacks don't follow accepted practice mine certainly didn't look here https://www.webmd.com/heart-disease/features/never-ignore-symptoms#1 Hope all sorts itself out, take it easy and get well soon. For Those Of A Certain Age ! - Gdog - 26-11-2019 100% on all the above Studders, but it looks to be more to do with my diet than the graft thing, not eating the good stuff and too much fast food crap orry:For Those Of A Certain Age ! - MickC - 26-11-2019 Get well soon Gdogg, and as Studders has said change your doctor. For Those Of A Certain Age ! - Gdog - 26-11-2019 Quote:Lots of heart attacks don't follow accepted practice mine certainly didn't look here https://www.webmd.com/heart-disease/features/never-ignore-symptoms#1 Good article Graham, exactly how mine was, the burning sensation when trying to breathe. Think possibly not enough people know the difference between having a heart attack and suffering from cardiac failure or going into cardiac arrest, I certainly did not, obviously !! For Those Of A Certain Age ! - Trevini - 26-11-2019 Bloody hell mate. Get well soon and take it easy. For Those Of A Certain Age ! - TKH - 26-11-2019 I'm glad you're at least still in the land of the living.  Sad to say I learnt the hard way to challenge doctors diagnosis if I was unsure. E.g. last one was I had trouble breathing, every breath felt like I was breathing strong chemical-like fumes, and it was getting worse Told the doctor and she said it was heart burn. What?? No definitely heartburn she said. After repeatedly telling her I disagreed because I knew what heartburn was and this wasn't it, she relented and sent me for tests. Turned out I had a respiratory infection. Took 3 different types of antibiotics before it went and of course a lot of bike rest (ahem!). Both my parents were taken to hospital with issues. Both wrongly treated and both died in hospital, my mum as a direct result of an overdose of the wrong medication. I'll not go into any more details on that, but, you know your symptoms, I really wish gdogg was an isolated case. For Those Of A Certain Age ! - Gdog - 26-11-2019 What makes it worse THK with regards to the GP thing is that I've been taking prescription meds for high blood pressure for the last seven years !! She never even took my blood pressure or a quick blood sugar check on that Monday afternoon which would have had the alarm bells ringing surely !!  You could say I should have known better I suppose but I honestly thought it was something to do with the dusty parts and the heart attack thing never even crossed my mind !  But hey done now and move on I suppose, but confidence rocked in the local medical practice that's for sure  Gdogg Quote:Bloody hell mate. Get well soon and take it easy. Cheers Trev, will do :good: For Those Of A Certain Age ! - drewpy - 26-11-2019 get well soon mate, scary For Those Of A Certain Age ! - Robodene - 26-11-2019 We never know what is around the corner. Very glad you are on a path to recovery. I am sure there are many things we can do to give ourselves the best chance of some longevity. Winter's reduced activity is rather a concern for me. Stay well y'all. For Those Of A Certain Age ! - dapleb - 26-11-2019 Glad you are ok dgod!!! For Those Of A Certain Age ! - alanfavell - 26-11-2019 Glad you're a survivor Gav :good:  Always fight em if I think they're misdiagnosing - it's too easy to take the they know best or I wanna hear something non-sinister approach. I've not a lot of faith in GPs, most of the ones I've met, socially or professionally, couldn't diagnose a misfire in a starting pistol. For Those Of A Certain Age ! - peter-may - 26-11-2019 Yep, thanks for the great advice. Some of you will know, I was a bit poorly a couple of years ago. Thought I'd been bitten by a mozzi, drove from Bristol to Liverpool. Went to hospital, and I'd had an acute stroke!! Get well soon Gdogg, be kind to yourself... For Those Of A Certain Age ! - dablik - 26-11-2019 Sadly it's not just limited to "peeps of a certain age" heart issues/stroke is more common with the youngsters an all these days, glad you got sorted and are okay Gav but fookinell, sack the GP pronto.  Typical of us manly folk though innit to assume it's nothing serious and forego a GP visit or call an ambulance, a lesson to be learnt for sure.  PS No jumping of the wardrobe for awhile mucka :good: For Those Of A Certain Age ! - Gdog - 26-11-2019 Cheers everyone much appreciated :good: Bit of a wake up call !!  Just need to get my diet sorted and up my exercise regime and all should be tickerty boo.  For Those Of A Certain Age ! - Quartermaster - 26-11-2019 Thanks for that. I think we all think we are invulnerable and ignore signs of something serious going on. I for one will remember your story and not piss about if I get similar symptoms. For Those Of A Certain Age ! - mikem - 26-11-2019 Scary story, but glad that you are okay. I hope that everything goes well for you from now. For Those Of A Certain Age ! - TKH - 26-11-2019 Quote:Cheers everyone much appreciated :good: Agreed, all those damn fruit and veggie things play havoc with a good honest diet of cake. For Those Of A Certain Age ! - ramotdm - 26-11-2019 Get well Gav  ya malingerer , see you next brekky meet, if ya allowed LOL |
