The Varadoodaa is a very capable bike, I can't ride one cos me legs are too short ! They are lots of fun.

I tried really hard at Mallory on my IAM track day, but my mate on the Varodoodaa beat me every time.

That's good, bad, good, bad, good Dave

Don't think you'll win any MPG contests from what I hear about 'em. That said, must be a no-brainer if the price is right

Gonna post some photos up fer us when ya gerrit ?

How much you wanting for your mk2 ?

Mk2 Staying.... Honda Sold - aircooled68 - 25-07-2010

I loved the riding position and the wind protection on motorway.

its big but didnt feel as heavy as my mk2 if ya know what i mean

I love the tdm but aint got the cash to have both and was planning to get into the touring next year
so i think the honda has the edge on it

Going to sleep on it have to let him know soon

I know you would still be welcome here with a Varadero but it is like moving house. You risk to loose some good links with a good neighbourhood for limited enhancement of your satisfaction on the road.
My advice. For your use of the bike, keep your bike and continue to embellish it to show us how smart a 850 can look like

I swapped a Veryneero in for the TDM 900. The Honda is a great bike and definatley has a bit more poke than the Yam. The seating position is very good and the pillions love the things. You can get lots of bits to stick on it, they tour well, they are very deceiving when it comes to getting about the lanes (in a positive way). The injection system is very good and now they have 6 speed box the economy is excellent, however, if you are looking at the 5 speed with carbs do not be suprised if, when carrying luggage, the fuel economy is as low as high 20s mpg.

I got rid of my 6 speed because it's centre of gravity and mine were a poor combination, I am, like the bike, a lardy bugger that is top heavy. As soon as the bike started to fall so did I (this is stood next to it, never had a problem when sat on it). I dropped it once to the left and once to the right, total cost £1600 (did I say that the Honda bits for it are expensive?).

Before you make a decision try pushing it around a bit and not just riding it, the TDM feels like I'm pushing an empty wheelbarrow around compared with the full one with a flat tyre that was the Varadero.

Hope that helps.

My partner has had 2 Varadero's (1 carbs & current fuel injection) and she loves them.
As I maintain them & get to ride them occasionally I'll give you my 2p worth.

The carb models use about 25% more fuel than a mk11 (but do not use oil) the bike is quicker but both higher and heavier. The seat is more comfortable but maintenance more of a pain.

She now has the fuel injection model which is about 25% more economic but uses about 20% more than my 900. Performance similar to the 900.

Personally I'd go for the 900 unless you are big and would appreciate the wider seat on the honda

There is nothing nicer than getting a different bike............try something new....if ya dont like it ya can always revert back to a TDM....if ya dont try it you will forever wonder why ya did'nt Dave......so if it's feasable from a financial point of view i say go for it..........if ya start to miss ya TDM i'll let ya have a bimble on mine............but i warn you it's faster than your's

Buy Jane a nice shiny stone for her finger and the bikes yours m8

Tough decision to make i know, but ya only live once....and it's not like your really young m8

Good luck if ya go ahead.
PS I'm sure the lads wont mind ya coming to g2g's on a HooHar, however you may have to bring more

Mk2 Staying.... Honda Sold - TonyDevil - 26-07-2010

why not borrow the honda for the day and take it down to a yammy dealer and book a ride on a 9er?
that way you can compare em back to back

even with thrashing the pants of the 9er i'm gettin 10% better MPG on fuel than my old mk1

Don’t be embarrassed Dave, the injected Varadero is on my list of ‘possibles’ for after the TDM (along with the GS1200 hey Ivan?). That said, I think the performance is pretty similar to the 900, so maybe you should try a go on a 900 before making the decision. That said (2), if you can get the Varadero for a good price, go ferrit.

Mk2 Staying.... Honda Sold - corouk - 26-07-2010

I was considering Vara after I crashed the Alp... but 241Kg I think put me off a bit... It is a great bike tho... It will be sad moment to see your shine MK2 go...

Mk2 Staying.... Honda Sold - dablik - 26-07-2010

Only ever had a short ride on my mates Vara 1000. Bloody comfy, but 'kin heavy and really heavy on fuel compared to my 900. Would make a great tourer, but too heavy for a bit of twisty fun.

If it's what you like, go for it, but try to get a good ride first (as with any bike).

Mk2 Staying.... Honda Sold - geordieguy - 26-07-2010

Dave,

In my veiw its Better the devil you know and I wouldn't change a thing.

I bet your saying to the new bike I cant get you out of my mind, and , I should be so lucky.

You will have to look at the TDM and say I'm giving you up.

But after a while you will be asking, please stay.

May be this will help ......... link
