Nephew has not covered himself in glory and bought a used BMW F900R despite my best efforts to get him on a Jap bike.

It's got 13,000 on clock and we already have issues with odd cutting out when hot. I have a feeling this is going to be a problem bike. No on bike diagnosis either. Back to the stealer it goes.

He’ll learn!

Sorry to hear that Lee, the shame must be a terrible burden to you....

Bmw In The Family - agrantg - 22-02-2021

I foillowed the safety first route I bought a BMW,but I have 2 TDMs to fall back on if it breaks down.

Bmw In The Family - leehenty - 22-02-2021

I said first big bike should be a TDM a solid safe bet, but no, Oh the shame.

Big up to you for the full confession Lee, better than bottling it up. BMW is german for " as a second bike only" .....or something...

You have my sympathy, I've had 2 Beemers.

1st one decided to self-destruct on the motorway. Clouds of smoke and oil dripping from the end of the exhaust.

[attachment=o13966]

Was stupid enough to replace it with another (dealer made an offer I couldn't refuse). Ditched it when it started dropping coolant everywhere.

Neither of them reached 15,000 miles.

Never had any issues with Jap bikes.

Bmw In The Family - leehenty - 15-03-2021

And the thing has stopped again for no reason I can find. This fetching it in the van is getting in tedious

Bmw In The Family - dablik - 15-03-2021

Charge him for breakdown service until he buys a Tdm  Lol

Bmw In The Family - leehenty - 15-03-2021

Solved it ! Battery earth on engine end has a loose crimp. Poked it and engine stopped.

Refitted a new terminal and crimped it tight, started up fine. It's been back to stealer three times, they thought it was software. Hopefully this fixed the heap.

Bmw In The Family - alanfavell - 16-03-2021

England's Glory, Swan or Pioneer will fix it.

Don't like crimped connections prefer soldered no problems then. :good:

Bmw In The Family - leehenty - 16-03-2021

Just not very impressed with it, too complex all this stepper motor throttling, you can't diagnose it from dash easily, it needs a computer.

Trouble is all dealer wants to do is plug in a computer, forgetting the basics. I'm hoping it's fixed,I'm charging him for the diesel. Told him a clean TDM would be no issues and easily fixed.

Again, if you want a job done properly  then.......!

Is this the new-in-2020 F900R like this -

If so, how has it done 13,000 already?

Abused press demo?

The XR version seems a possible alternative to the TDM, apart from the concerns mentioned in this thread. I was pointed at one when I wandered into a BMW showroom last year and declared my TDM-ness.

Bmw In The Family - leehenty - 16-03-2021

It's 20 plate and yes it's an ex demo bike, had a slight drop on left side just scratches clock says 13k unless it's set to KM which happened when it was last in dealer. It been in my van three times now, fetching it from places when it's gone dead...

Is it fugly, or is it just me?

Bmw In The Family - leehenty - 16-03-2021

His is a sort of grey and black not red but essentially the same
Yes absolutely fugly

Bmw In The Family - leehenty - 16-03-2021

I advised against the purchase based solely on the high miles, but boys will be boys.
